    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p>The Medical Technologist is responsible for a variety of laboratory tests in microbiology, clinical chemistry, hematology, serology, coagulation and urinalysis.</p>\n<p><strong>Job Relationships</strong></p>\n<p>Reports to the Laboratory Manager</p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>Principal Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Responsible for the performance of both routine and special test procedures for which qualified by education, training and experience.&nbsp; Accountable for accurate results and the proper use of quality controls, materials and procedures.&nbsp; Must recognize the interdependency of tests and conditions that affect test results.&nbsp; Correct own errors, and use and maintain a variety of complex instruments.&nbsp; Watch for potential problems and correct any that arise.&nbsp; See that reagent inventories are kept at proper levels.&nbsp; Under minimal supervision, work on the development of new methods and techniques to be used in the laboratory.&nbsp; Serve as a methodology \"\"troubleshooter\"\" in the investigating and correcting problems.&nbsp; May be responsible for the work of others during the temporary absence of the manager.&nbsp; Participate in continuing education programs.</li>\n <li>Draw blood samples.</li>\n <li>Perform routine, special and automated tests for which qualified in hematology, coagulation urinalysis, clinical chemistry, serology, and immunology.</li>\n <li>Set up, read and report results of cultures in bacteriology.</li>\n <li>Make and read smears.</li>\n <li>Perform prescribed quality control procedure for all tests and record results in proper record books.</li>\n <li>Teach laboratory procedure to new laboratory personnel.</li>\n <li>Perform test procedures in accordance with the procedure manual.</li>\n <li>Inventory and request supplies and reagents as needed.</li>\n <li>Prepare reagents as needed.</li>\n <li>Maintain a neat and clean work area.</li>\n <li>Assist the physicians in any manner you can.</li>\n <li>Abide by the policies of this laboratory.</li>\n <li>Report test results to authorized personnel.</li>\n <li>Required to rotate between sections due to variations in workload, staffing and orientation programs.</li>\n <li>Required to rotate shifts with other laboratory personnel.</li>\n <li>Required to fill in at satellites.</li>\n <li>Print PE-7 log at satellites and record workload.</li>\n <li>Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.</li>\n <li>Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training &amp; accomplishments as required per policy.</li>\n <li>Provide excellent customer service and adhere to SC Way customer service philosophy.</li>\n <li>Perform other job duties as assigned.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Education/Experience</strong></p>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<blockquote>\n <p>a) Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology or<br/>b) Three (3) years of college plus one year of medical technology training, or<br/>c) Bachelor's degree in one of the sciences, plus one year of clinical laboratory work experience or<br/>d) Has passed the HEW proficiency exam. Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology.</p>\n</blockquote>\n<p>&nbsp;</p>\n<p><strong>Licenses/Certificates</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Medical Technologist/Med Lab Scientist certification through ASCP preferred</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Must be able to supervise and teach others.</li>\n <li>Must be able to evaluate procedures, equipment and people (peers and subordinates).</li>\n <li>Must be able to work independently.</li>\n <li>Must be able to recognize and identify the causes of problems (technical and instrumental), present alternatives and determine solutions.</li>\n <li>Must be able to perform complex analyses which may require many steps and variables.</li>\n <li>Must be able to communicate facts and ideas to a variety of people within and outside the laboratory.</li>\n <li>Must have an in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles and instruments and their interrelationships.</li>\n <li>Must be able to work under stress.</li>\n <li>Responsible for own work and decisions.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>PHI/Privacy Level</strong></p>\n<p>HIPAA1</p>",
