The Center for Writing Excellence (CWE) is looking for a diverse group of capable, high-achieving, and motivated undergraduate students from any major to work as an Undergraduate Writing Consultant. Our consultants work one-on-one with writers from every major, level, and language background on their writing. This position cultivates diverse communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills that employers and graduate programs consistently rank among the most valued competencies in any field.
Students from all majors are encouraged to apply! You do not need to be an English major or a “perfect” writer. You just need to be curious, caring, and committed to helping others grow.
Duties of an Undergraduate Writing Consultant
• Work one-on-one with students at every stage of the writing process (brainstorming, researching, outlining, drafting, revising, and editing), offering support with argument, thesis, audience, purpose, evidence, organization, grammar, and style
• Support writers from a wide range of disciplines and across genres, including research papers, essays, lab reports, proposals, resumes, and personal statements
• Write session notes following each tutoring session and thoughtfully implement feedback to support your ongoing growth

• Collaborate with directors on tasks, special projects, outreach, and presentations as needed
• Engage actively in orientation, training sessions, staff meetings, and observations
• Work in the CWE a minimum of 7 hours per week and a maximum of 20 hours per week, based on CWE needs
What We’re Looking For
• The ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with others
