This field-based role is responsible for monitoring contractor work, verifying compliance with contract documents, applicable codes, safety requirements, and quality standards, while documenting progress and supporting the Resident Engineer with field coordination.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Locations available include Lower Hudson Valley, Capital District (Albany), or Syracuse Division (west side) </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p>Inspection, Quality and Compliance• Inspect and verify construction work for compliance with plans, specifications, NYSDOT and NYSTA standards, applicable codes, and environmental, quality, and safety standards• Observe construction activities across one or more of the following• Highway and bridge work including earthwork, drainage, concrete, steel, utilities, and MPT• Buildings and facilities including architectural, structural, MEP, and renovations• Rail and transit projects including trackwork, platforms, facilities, utilities, and yards• Identify nonconforming work and coordinate corrective actions</p>\n<p>Documentation and Contract Support• Prepare daily inspection reports, photographs, and progress documentation• Measure, calculate, and verify quantities for materials installed, delivered, or stored• Witness and document required materials testing• Review and process project documentation including submittals and RFIs• Assist with meeting minutes, issue tracking, and field documentation</p>\n<p>Coordination and Safety• Coordinate with the Resident Engineer, project staff, contractors, NYSDOT and NYSTA representatives, rail owners, municipalities, and agencies• Participate in coordination meetings and follow up on action items• Monitor jobsite safety including OSHA, DOT requirements, MPT, and promote compliance with PPE and safety protocols</p>\n<p>Experience and Skills• Field inspection experience on transportation, buildings, rail, or civil construction projects• Ability to interpret plans, specifications, codes, and contract documents• Familiarity with construction manual requirements and digital documentation systems including AASHTOWare, COMPASS, ProjectWise, and SharePoint• Ability to perform accurate field measurements and quantity calculations• Strong written and verbal communication skills• Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel</p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering Technology, or related field• OR High School Diploma and a NICET Level I</p>\n<p>Preferred Requirements• NICET Level II or higher• ACI, NETTCP, ATSSA certifications• OSHA 10 Hour or 30 Hour• Relevant trade license, project dependent• Experience on NYSDOT and NYSTA projects preferred</p>\n<p>Physical and Working Conditions• Ability to work in active construction environments, including uneven terrain, heights, excavations, and varied weather conditions• Willingness to work nights, weekends, or off hours for traffic shifts, building shutdowns, or rail outages</p>\n<h2>Benefits</h2>\n<p>M&J is a leader in providing quality engineering consulting services to a diverse and exciting client base.
