The community of Port Hawkesbury is seeking a full scope family physician to join their family practice network team in the Cape Breton South region on beautiful Cape Breton Island! This opportunity offers you the chance to work with a team of physicians, nurse practitioner, social worker, and dietician in a newly constructed (built in 2020) collaborative practice in the heart of the Town of Port Hawkesbury. Depending on your interests, there is opportunity to work closely with Strait Richmond Hospital (SRH) by covering emergency room shifts or inpatients through the Community Hospital Inpatient Program (CHIP), which allows for a nice work-life balance.
This region serves the health care needs of the residents of communities in Richmond County and the southern portion of Inverness County. Located in Evanston, SRH is approximately 80 kilometers from St. Martha’s Regional Hospital (one of the regional level referral centres for the population). .

The facility has 15 medicine beds and five restorative care beds that provides inpatient, outpatient, and satellite care.
The site also houses a number of other interdisciplinary services including:
community based rehabilitation centre diabetes education diagnostic imaging dietitian emergency department foot care clinic hemodialysis laboratory services mental health & addictions services occupational therapy palliative care physiotherapy social work The facility also has a number of visiting specialists:

duties include full scope of practice as a family physician providing care to patients within the eastern zone and participating in call the physician will be responsible to the zone department head of family practice for their professional responsibilities and quality of practice and will operate within the Medical Staff Bylaws of the Nova Scotia Health Authority in addition to office work each week, the successful candidate has the option to provide part-time coverage in the following areas: community emergency medicine (level 4 ED), inpatient coverage (based on a Community Hospital Inpatient Program arrangement), and nursing home Expected Hours

full-time on call (1:7) for inpatients, additional call stipend paid

Home to a 10 kilometre all-season trail system called the Port Hawkesbury Trail System, people of all skill level and ability can discover a wide variety of plants and wildlife through majestic hardwood stands, softwood forests, and along gently flowing brooks and streams.
