Short Description
Advanced Practice Provider (APP) - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Acute Care Surgery
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Assessment & Management : Perform comprehensive assessments of acute surgical patients, develop and implement treatment plans, monitor progress, and adjust care as needed in collaboration with resident and attending physicians.
Critical Care Procedures : Perform bedside procedures such as suturing, drain placement/removal and wound care management.
Coordination of Care : Work closely with surgeons, critical care intensivists, surgery and medicine residents, and the multidisciplinary team to coordinate care.
Patient Monitoring : Continuously evaluate patient condition, monitor vital signs, and interpret lab results, diagnostic imaging, and other data to guide treatment decisions.
Family Communication : Provide education and emotional support to patients' families, ensuring they are well-informed about the patient's condition, treatment options, and prognosis.
Clinical Documentation : Maintain detailed and accurate electronic medical records (EMRs) of patient care, including assessments, treatments, interventions, and outcomes.
Leadership & Education : Serve as a clinical leader through nursing staff education and contribute to the training of students and residents as needed.
Continuous Improvement : Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education to stay current with best practices in emergency surgery care.
Skills: Strong clinical judgment, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Work Environment : Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Experience Required
Minimum 2-3 years of experience in surgery, trauma, emergency medicine, or critical care settings preferred.
Education Requirements
Master's Degree - Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is required
License/Certification Requirements
Board certification Nurse Practitioner and Acute Care certification or Board certification as Physician Assistant; Active New Jersey License; American Heart Association BLS and CDS/DEA
