Description
Supervisor, Mental Health Programming
Supervises: Youth Mental Health Coordinator, Suicide Prevention Coordinator, BBYO Social Worker
Reports to: Senior Director, Mental Health Services
Job Summary
The Supervisor of Mental Health Programming supports the coordination and oversight of mental-health related programming across the Metro Detroit community, with a focus on youth and Jewish communal partners. This role provides supervision and program guidance to staff working in youth mental health coordination, suicide prevention programming, JCADA and BBYO social work. The Supervisor builds and maintains collaborative relationships with service providers and key partners. The position assists with grant management, data tracking, and program evaluation to support quality improvement across assigned programs.
This role also provides leadership and coordination for JFS crisis response efforts, including both direct service response to critical incidents and organizational readiness for a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI)-level response. Responsibilities include developing emergency response plans, participating in partner-based emergency preparedness efforts, and coordinating JFS’ role in a response model in collaboration with community partners.
Principal Accountabilities
Direction - Support program coordinators in the effective delivery of mental health programs including the youth mental health and suicide prevention initiatives. Align program goals and activities with agency priorities and the guidance of the Senior Director of Mental Health Services. Supervision - Maintain high-quality staff performance by coaching, training, supporting, and evaluating assigned staff. Create a supportive environment that fosters professional development, accountability, and compassionate service delivery. Clinical - Provide clinical consultation and guidance to the BBYO Social Worker and other program staff, including support in navigating complex teen and family situations, risk assessment, boundary-setting, and coordination of referrals as appropriate. Collaboration – Co-chair the Jewish Coalition Against Domestic Abuse (JCADA) to coordinate community training, education, and outreach efforts addressing domestic abuse. Training - Participate in and, as appropriate, co-facilitate suicide prevention and mental health trainings (e.g., ASIST, safeTALK, and related models), supporting program staff in building skills, maintaining competencies, and strengthening community education efforts. Crisis Response - Serve as the primary coordinator for JFS Crisis Response, including coordinating and responding to community requests for crisis intervention and the deployment of staff and volunteers during community critical incidents. Coordinate training, scheduling, and ongoing support for the JFS Crisis Response Team. Planning - Lead planning and readiness for a Mass Casualty Incident (MCI)-level response, including development and maintenance of JFS' response plan and roles within a Family Resource Center (FRC) / Family Assistance Center (FAC) model, participation in exercises and drills, and maintaining strong relationships with JFD, JCSI, Hatzalah, American Red Cross, Oakland County Emergency Management, and other partners. Quality - Assist in establishing and maintaining procedures for service delivery, documentation, and outcome tracking. Support the collection and analysis of program data to inform quality improvement, reporting, and help identify gaps in services. Partnerships – Build and maintain external partnerships to collaboratively deliver mental-health programming. Represent JFS at community meetings, coalitions, and events, and collaborate with Development/Marketing staff to support program-related communications and outreach. Administration - Ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation and reporting requirements. Assist with grants data collection and reporting, compliance, support recruitment and onboarding with Human Resources, promote responsible stewardship of resources, and maintain professional knowledge through training and continuing education. Security and Privacy –Adhere to agency and client protection policies by regularly acclimating yourself with the JFS privacy, safety and security policies made available within the employee handbook. Employee Philanthropy –Support and engage in a culture of philanthropy in all work done on behalf of the agency. Participate annually in agency and partner related philanthropic activities and campaigns. Mission Dedication –Embody the mission and values of JFS in all work done on behalf of the agency. Utilization of the JFS key strategies will ensure success in this accountability. Misc. – Other duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Social Work or a related human service field. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in human services, with prior supervisory, team leadership, or program coordination experience preferred.
