Description

Description Do you excel at building relationships, solving problems, and helping others succeed? Are you passionate about creating a sense of belonging and empowering volunteers to make a difference? If so, you might be the perfect fit for our team! Girl Scouts Nation’s Capital is seeking a Membership Retention Specialist to strengthen and support the vibrant network of volunteers and members who make Girl Scouting possible. In this role, you’ll help ensure that every Girl Scout—youth and adult alike—has a positive, lasting experience. What You’ll Do As a Membership Retention Specialist, you’ll serve as a trusted partner and problem-solver for troop volunteers and families. You’ll develop and carry out strategies to retain and support members, helping them stay engaged and inspired year after year. Whether you’re mentoring new volunteers, facilitating conflict resolution, or leading a local meeting, your work will help strengthen the foundation of Girl Scouting in your community. Each day offers new opportunities to connect with people, share solutions, and celebrate success. You’ll collaborate closely with staff and volunteers to build sustainable membership, ensuring Girl Scouts continue to grow in courage, confidence, and character through meaningful experiences. Key Responsibilities Develop and implement annual retention strategies to meet membership goals for youth and adults in the assigned area. Build strong, supportive relationships with volunteers through regular communication, coaching, and encouragement. Assist new troops with onboarding and provide ongoing guidance throughout their first year to ensure a positive volunteer experience. Partner with community leaders and volunteers to maintain a strong service unit structure—helping fill key roles and supporting volunteer-led operations. Represent the council at local volunteer meetings, sharing important updates, initiatives, and seasonal reminders. Collaborate with colleagues, including Membership Recruitment Specialists, to ensure new members are successfully placed and retained in troops. Address and mediate minor conflicts or challenges with sensitivity and professionalism, ensuring alignment with the council’s values and policies. Use Salesforce to manage communications, track outreach efforts, and monitor progress toward key performance indicators. Provide exceptional customer service to all members and volunteers, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all. What We’re Looking For You’re an excellent communicator and natural relationship-builder who thrives on helping others succeed. You can balance empathy with accountability, and you take pride in seeing the people you support feel confident and valued. You’re organized, adaptable, and motivated by mission-driven work that has a lasting impact. You should have: Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. A genuine enthusiasm for the Girl Scout mission and a commitment to fostering belonging. The ability to plan and carry out independent work to meet measurable goals. Comfort working directly with both youth and adults. Flexibility to work evenings and weekends regularly (about 3 evenings per week most of the year). Proficiency with technology tools (Microsoft Office or Google Suite); Salesforce experience a plus. A valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for daily travel within the region. Bonus Points Bilingual skills in English and Spanish. Experience supporting volunteers or managing community-based programs. Previous involvement with Girl Scouts or similar youth-serving organizations. Some of Our Benefits 100% employer-paid HMO health insurance for employees (dependent coverage, POS, dental/vision available). 3% employer contribution to 403(b), plus additional 2% match.
