The department has 12 full-time officers, 3 part-time officers, and several reserve officers.</p><p><br></p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><p>An employee in this class performs general law enforcement work to protect life and property in the Town, including but not limited to:&nbsp;</p><ul><li>Patrols streets in a police car or on foot.</li><li>Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, loud and disruptive behavior.&nbsp;</li><li>Completes calls by determining the true nature of the situation and taking whatever legal action is warranted.</li><li>Investigates traffic accidents, conducts traffic stops, issues traffic citations, directs traffic and participates in other emergency operation activities.</li><li>&nbsp;Assists stranded motorists, regulates and directs vehicular traffic at busy times and when traffic signals malfunction or accidents require the same.</li><li>Performs investigations of accidents or possible crimes through observation, questioning witnesses, and gathering physical evidence.</li><li>Performs investigative tasks, arrests, and processes criminal suspects.</li><li>Testifies in court concerning arrests.</li><li>Issues citations for violations of traffic regulations, serves warrants, apprehends and processes criminal suspects and transports to detention facilities.&nbsp;</li><li>Performs other related duties as required.&nbsp;</li><li>Officers are assigned to a permanent 12-hour shift (day or night).&nbsp;</li></ul><p><br></p>",
