As one of only four pediatric burn specialty hospitals in the Shriners Children's health system, we are designated by the American Burn Association (ABA) and the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma as a verified pediatric burn center. Located on Galveston Island, our 30-bed inpatient hospital provides a full line of both inpatient and outpatient care specializing in burn care, orthopedic conditions, complex skin conditions, and plastic and reconstructive surgery. Our services extend to a number outreach clinics in San Angelo & Marshall, Texas, and Monterrey, San Luis Potosi, Guadalajara, Veracruz, Toluca & Chihuahua Mexico and Panama, which provide children and families access to high-quality, specialized burn and orthopedic care.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p></p>\n<h2>Job Overview</h2>\n<p>The PACU Registered Nurse provides nursing care to our pediatric patients within the recovery room, performs assessments and interventions designed to keep the patients safe after surgery.  The RN provides leadership through activities such as preceptor role and quality improvement efforts.  The RN supports professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family. </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Involves patient, family, and health care team members in formulating an appropriate individualized plan of care and identifies expected outcomes based on nursing assessment and diagnosis.</li>\n <li>Implements the plan of care in partnership with the patient, family, and health care team members.</li>\n <li>Ensures all components of the plan of care are documented in the patient health record.</li>\n <li>Evaluates the patient/family's understanding of and response to the plan of care.</li>\n <li>Utilizes teaching strategies appropriate to the individual patient's condition and learning needs.</li>\n</ul>\n<p>This is not an all-inclusive list of this job’s responsibilities. The incumbent may be required to perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.</p>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p><strong>Required: </strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>BSN or in progress</li>\n <li>Texas RN license</li>\n <li>Basic Life Support (BLS)</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Preferred:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Experience in the pediatric specialty of the hospital which may include: Maternal/Child, Orthopaedic, Burn Rehabilitation</li>\n</ul>",
