Description

Overview Registered Nurse (Maternal Child Dept, Inpatient Obstetrics) – Primary place of duty shall be the Complicated Obstetrics & Gynecological Surgery Unit or The Mother Baby Unit (Postpartum). On occasion due to workload, the HCWs may be required to work in an alternate inpatient area within the Maternal Child Department at the direction of the immediate or acting supervisor. The Complicated Obstetrics and Gynecological Surgery Unit 4E consists of fifteen (15) beds in nine (9) rooms. The Mother-Baby Unit (Postpartum) is a family-centered inpatient unit that consists of forty-nine (49) beds located in twenty-nine (29) rooms on 4, K, L. The average daily census is twenty (20) uncomplicated post-partum care couplets. The goal of the Mother-Baby Unit is to encourage routine newborns to transition at the mother’s bedside. A multi-disciplinary team that consists of nursing services, obstetricians, pediatricians, clergy, a dietitian, social worker, discharge planner and lactation consultant provide teaching and information, as the new baby and parents have the opportunity to bond together. Pay: $45/hr, Health & Wellness $5.06*/hr worked (in lieu of benefits) Hours of Performance: Services shall be provided Sunday through Saturday. Typical shifts required are 1845 to 0715 and 0645 to 1915. Holidays: Required Responsibilities Perform physical exam and health histories. Provide health promotions, counseling, and education. Administer medications, wound care, and numerous other personalized interventions. Direct and supervise care provide by other healthcare professionals. Accountable for making patient care assignments based on the scope of practice and skill level of assigned personnel. Recognize adverse signs and symptoms and quickly react in emergency situations. Communicate and collaborate with a diverse group of people for the purpose of informing the healthcare team of plans/actions, for teaching/education to benefit the patient/family and organization. Make referral appointments and arrange specialty care as appropriate. Perform nursing services identified in the TO. Conduct research in support of improved practice and patient outcomes. Shall perform speculum exams to assess for ruptured membranes. Perform vaginal exams to determine cervical dilation. Correctly utilize electronic fetal monitoring. Apply and trouble shoot external monitors. Assist with the application of interval monitors and trouble shoot. Interpret fetal monitor tracings and implement appropriate nursing care. Assist with special OB procedures, i.e., amniocentesis, external versions, antepartum testing. Administer IV push medications. Assess patient's stage of labor and implement appropriate nursing care. Perform circulating duties in the delivery room. Provide initial and/or resuscitative care to the newborn. Recognize signs of labor complications, to include abruption, previa, uterine rupture, hemorrhage, eclampsia, and implement appropriate care. Implement and monitor pitocin augmentation or induction of labor. Administer magnesium sulfate, terbutalane and ritodrine correctly and monitor effect. Assess vital signs and provide care accordingly. Performs Venipuncture and maintains IV therapy to include administration of IV medications. Utilizes sterile technique when necessary. Monitor patients for complication of recovery stage of labor. Prepares patients for C-Section or surgery as needed. Functions as circulating nurse during C-Sections. Instruct and/or reinforces the use of relaxation and breathing techniques during labor. Monitor diabetic patient in labor. Identify pre-term labor and provide appropriate care. Assess the sensory and motor level of Epidural block and document appropriately. Identify when a block is too high and what corrective measures to take. Assess epidural insertion site. Qualifications Degree/Education: Degree/Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Graduate from a college or university accredited by National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC), or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Certifications in addition to Basic Life Support: Possess and maintain Basic Fetal Monitoring certification from the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN). Possess and maintain Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification. Experience: Possess a minimum of one (1) year of experience as an RN working in a woman’s health care setting or in medical-surgical nursing within the last two (2) years.
