    "requisitionDescription": "<p>Heidelberg University is seeking to hire an Adjunct Instructor of the Heidelberg University Marching Band for a one-semester adjunct faculty position that includes directing the Marching Band and Symphonic Band and potentially teaching a course in marching band techniques. The Adjunct Instructor of the Heidelberg University Marching Band is a dynamic teacher with a strong background in bands and instrumental music education. This position will report directly to the Director of the School of Music and Theatre.</p><p><strong>Essential Duties and Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Conduct the Marching (during football season) and Symphonic Bands (after football season concludes).</li><li>Teach potential course in Marching Band Techniques.</li><li>Provide programming service to the SMT and larger Heidelberg Community.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Core Values and Personal Attributes</strong></p><ul><li>Model leadership values of integrity, honesty, respectfulness, diversity, and accountability in all interactions and activities.</li><li>Utilize pedagogy that matches best practice in the discipline; challenging students with content and practices that emphasizes critical thinking and engagement/application.&nbsp;</li><li>Collaborate with other School of Music and Theatre faculty, assisting with curricular, programmatic and engagement endeavors. &nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrate a commitment to teamwork and strong interpersonal skills.</li><li>Bring a spirit of enthusiasm and energy to the campus, inspiring students and colleagues. </li></ul><p><br></p><p><strong>Desired Attributes and Qualifications</strong></p><p><strong>Education and Professional Experience:</strong></p><ul><li>Bachelor&#39;s in Music Education is required. A MM, DMA, or PhD in Music Education is preferred.</li><li>Minimum of 3 years of secondary school teaching experience, including both marching band and symphonic band programming. 5 years teaching experience preferred.</li></ul><p><strong>Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:</strong></p><ul><li>The ability to lead and develop a collegiate band program, and excellent classroom teaching skills are crucial.&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstrated experience in wind band conducting with broad knowledge of repertoire.</li><li>Recruiting ability is a primary requirement. Proven success in building an instrumental program at the secondary level is required.&nbsp;</li><li>The ability to collaborate with faculty, ensembles and programs within the School of Music and Theatre. Support and service to the School of Music and Theatre and to broad University constituencies is expected.&nbsp;</li><li>The ability to act as a representative for the School of Music and Theatre and Heidelberg University.</li><li>Outstanding oral communication skills.</li><li>Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborating with colleagues and student workers.</li><li>Ability to travel and work weekends as needed according to SMT programming and recruitment endeavors.&nbsp;</li></ul><p><br></p><p><br></p><p data-pasted=\"true\"><strong>TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Various instructional technologies including, but not limited to Google Suite, learning management systems such as Canvas, video conferencing, etc. Fluency on Pyware or other marching band drill programming is required.&nbsp;</p><p><strong>PHYSICAL DEMANDS: </strong></p><p>The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.</p><p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally be subject to a variety of outdoor conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation. &nbsp;The employee is required to be mobile and be able to communicate clearly and effectively with others. &nbsp;Conducting is a primary responsibility of this candidate, fluid mobility and stamina for the torso and arms is necessary. &nbsp;</p><p><strong>WORK ENVIRONMENT: </strong>The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. &nbsp;</p><p>While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works in office and classroom settings as well as educational facilities including sports and entertainment venues, all of which may be indoor or outdoor. &nbsp;The employee may occasionally travel which may include evening and weekend commitments.
