The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for conducting environmental monitoring throughout the construction of various energy development projects. The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for coordinating daily compliance activities and monitoring duties during construction activities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct daily inspections of construction activities and attend construction meetings Conduct wildlife monitoring activities, as required Ensure implementation of mitigation measures from project environmental protection plan, permit conditions, and best management practices Inspect implemented erosion and sediment control measures and provide recommendations for repair and correction, as needed Oversee and direct soils handling activities (e.g., topsoil stripping) Develop and implement corrective action plans and mitigation measures for any identified environmental issues or hazards Support Canacre’s commitment to safety by participating in safety meetings, following safety policies, and being an advocate for safe work practices in the field Act as an environmental lead for the Environment team Act as a resource to construction personnel and guide environmental regulations and how they are applied in the field Act as a point of contact for the Client and Construction Contractors Verify that environmentally sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work is started in the area Coordinate daily with construction team to discuss upcoming construction activities, potential problem areas, and areas of environmental concern Coordinate with construction personnel to provide necessary information and facilitate regular communication among all parties Inspect areas of concern and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required Complete daily, weekly, and monthly environmental reports, including reports of wildlife sweeps, and environmental incidents Review field reports for consistency and accuracy Support the preparation of environmental permits, when required Coordinate with regulatory agencies, as required Perform other duties as required. QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Post-secondary degree/diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field of study Formal leadership training would be considered an asset Experience 5-7 years professional experience as a Biologist, Environmental Monitor, Environmental Inspector, Environmental Planner, or related role Wildlife experience e.g., at least one field season of demonated experience in nest sweeps or avian surveys Experience related to linear projects - pipeline, transmission line and renewable energy construction would be an asset. Experienced leading field programs, and coordinating with various field teams Experience and knowledge related to other biophysical disciplines, such as wetlands, vegetation, aquatics, etc. would be an asset. Designation or certification related to erosion and sediment control, such as CPESC, CESSWI, etc., would be an asset. Knowledge/Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc. Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and best management practices Experience developing summary reports related to construction activities and/or compliance status Experience with ESRI products, such as ArcGIS Pro, Survey 123 and Field Maps would be an asset Excellent interpersonal and communications skills Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing and decision-making skills Excellent attention to detail Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders. Excellent written and verbal communication skills Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier

The Environmental Monitor will primarily be responsible for coordinating daily compliance activities and monitoring duties during construction activities.\n DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct daily inspections of construction activities and attend construction meetings\n Conduct wildlife monitoring activities, as required\n Ensure implementation of mitigation measures from project environmental protection plan, permit conditions, and best management practices\n Inspect implemented erosion and sediment control measures and provide recommendations for repair and correction, as needed\n Oversee and direct soils handling activities (e.g., topsoil stripping)\n Develop and implement corrective action plans and mitigation measures for any identified environmental issues or hazards\n Support Canacre’s commitment to safety by participating in safety meetings, following safety policies, and being an advocate for safe work practices in the field\n Act as an environmental lead for the Environment team\n Act as a resource to construction personnel and guide environmental regulations and how they are applied in the field\n Act as a point of contact for the Client and Construction Contractors\n Verify that environmentally sensitive areas are properly marked and flagged before work is started in the area\n Coordinate daily with construction team to discuss upcoming construction activities, potential problem areas, and areas of environmental concern\n Coordinate with construction personnel to provide necessary information and facilitate regular communication among all parties\n Inspect areas of concern and make appropriate recommendations to construction personnel, as required\n Complete daily, weekly, and monthly environmental reports, including reports of wildlife sweeps, and environmental incidents\n Review field reports for consistency and accuracy\n Support the preparation of environmental permits, when required\n Coordinate with regulatory agencies, as required\n Perform other duties as required.\n QUALIFICATIONS:\n Education Post-secondary degree/diploma in Biology, Environmental Science, or related field of study\n Formal leadership training would be considered an asset\n Experience 5-7 years professional experience as a Biologist, Environmental Monitor, Environmental Inspector, Environmental Planner, or related role\n Wildlife experience e.g., at least one field season of demonated experience in nest sweeps or avian surveys\n Experience related to linear projects - pipeline, transmission line and renewable energy construction would be an asset.\n Experienced leading field programs, and coordinating with various field teams\n Experience and knowledge related to other biophysical disciplines, such as wetlands, vegetation, aquatics, etc. would be an asset.\n Designation or certification related to erosion and sediment control, such as CPESC, CESSWI, etc., would be an asset.\n Knowledge/Skills Strong verbal and written communication skills – data collection and interpretation, technical report writing, regulatory permit applications, client communications, etc.\n Strong working knowledge of environmental regulations and best management practices\n Experience developing summary reports related to construction activities and/or compliance status\n Experience with ESRI products, such as ArcGIS Pro, Survey 123 and Field Maps would be an asset\n Excellent interpersonal and communications skills\n Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, prioritizing and decision-making skills\n Excellent attention to detail\n Ability to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously with minimal supervision\n Detail-oriented, self-motivated and highly organized with strong problem-solving skills\n Ability to build strong, lasting relationships with key stakeholders.\n Excellent written and verbal communication skills\n Working knowledge of Microsoft Office\n Valid Driver’s License, with ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier",
