Our Youth Program provides students from Portland and Central Oregon with long-term relationships with caring adults, which nurtures individual creativity, beginning in sixth grade and continuing into young adulthood. Caldera has a $5M budget, a 18-member board, 21 full-time year-round employees, and a range of seasonally contracted artists and staff. Its administrative office is located in Portland, Oregon, and its Arts Center is located outside of Sisters in Central Oregon. Position Title: Night Duty Staff Supervisor: Youth Program Manager/Assistant Camp Manager FULL TIME: Typically from 10:30 PM to 6 AM, with flexibility required based on camp needs Work Location: Sisters, OR Compensation: Salary/Rate of Pay: $110/day, with 1% increase for each year of experience working at Camp Caldera (not to exceed 7%) Training Salary/Rate of Pay: $75/day Room and board provided during days with programming; room only during non-programming days. A light dinner will be provided on staff arrival days. Brunch is served on the last day of each session. Position Description: The Night Duty Staff Member plays a critical role in ensuring the safety, well-being, and smooth operation of the youth summer camp during overnight hours. This position requires a reliable, responsible, and compassionate individual who will be vigilant and proactive in overseeing campers, providing support to other staff, and addressing any issues that arise throughout the night. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, the ability to handle emergency situations calmly, and a passion for working with youth. Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Overnight Camper Supervision & Wellbeing (80%) Ensure all campers are safely in their assigned tipis at curfew. Monitor camper behavior during the night, ensuring they are settled and following camp rules. Perform safety checks of tipi areas hourly. Assist campers with any nighttime concerns (homesickness, safety, etc.). Be a calm and approachable presence, offering reassurance when needed. Safety Response, Communication & Operational Support (10%) Respond quickly to any emergency situations and alert the appropriate team members as necessary. Follow all camp safety protocols and be prepared to act in any unforeseen circumstances. Communicate important information about camper behavior, incidents, or concerns to the camp management team during shift handovers. Work closely with other camp staff to ensure a smooth transition between day and night operations Keep accurate records of any incidents, camper concerns, or events that occur during the night shift. Report any maintenance or facility issues that may arise to the appropriate team member. Provide emotional support to campers who may need assistance during the night, whether it be for homesickness or personal issues. Foster a positive and inclusive camp environment, contributing to a culture of respect and care for all campers.
