Description
Hope House, a Preble Street low-barrier shelter located in Bangor, Maine, provides shelter and intensive services to individuals experiencing homelessness in a 24-hour trauma-informed environment grounded in social work best practices.
We are seeking a Part-Time Shelter Navigator to help maintain resident safety, support skills-building and daily living activities, provide crisis intervention, and cover shifts as needed. This role also includes documentation, reporting, and collaboration with the Hope House team to meet program goals and advance the agency’s mission.
Population Served: Individuals who are experiencing homelessness.
Available Schedules: Sunday into Monday 9p-7a AND Tuesday into Wednesday 9p-7a (2 overnight shifts)
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field of study and experience in direct service provision to people experiencing homelessness, or comparable combination of education and relevant experience.
Required skills and knowledge include:
Understanding of the Preble Street mission, harm reduction, and social and economic justice including the role of policy advocacy throughout all programs and positions.
Understanding and positive regard for individuals experiencing homelessness and/or living in poverty.
Familiarity with relevant community resources.
Understanding of low-barrier services and related challenges
Compensation and Benefits The hourly rate of pay for this part-time (20-25 hours/week) position is $23.12 per hour. As a direct service position in a 24/7 program, this position is eligible for shift differentials of $1.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00pm or $2.00 per hour for all hours actually worked between the hours of 10:00pm and 7:00am.
This position is eligible for the part-time benefits program, which includes sick time and paid time off; eligibility to enroll in the 403(b) retirement plan with employer match; eligibility to enroll in the health and dental insurance plans with pro-rated premium contributions; and access to the Employee Assistance Program.
