Description
Title: Manufacturing Team Leader
Job Summary:
The Team Leader is responsible for leading and developing a team of operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. This role focuses on coaching team members, supporting daily operations, and driving continuous improvement to achieve the Balanced Scorecard goals (Safety, Quality, Productivity, Human Development, and Operational Excellence).
The Team Leader works closely with the Manufacturing Manager and cross-functional teams to resolve issues, improve processes, and ensure production targets are met while fostering a culture of accountability, teamwork, and operational excellence.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Yes
Duties/Responsibilities: Lead, coach, and develop a team of operators to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality production. Support daily production activities to ensure schedules and customer requirements are met. Monitor team performance and take appropriate actions to meet Balanced Scorecard goals (Safety, Quality, Productivity, Human Development, and Operational Excellence). Promote and enforce compliance with safety policies, procedures, and best practices. Ensure operators follow standard work, work instructions, and quality requirements. Support troubleshooting and resolution of production, process, and equipment issues. Look for opportunities for floor level inspection to be completed for first piece to eliminate bottle necks. Provide training, coaching, and cross-training to team members to support workforce development Participate in and support continuous improvement initiatives to improve productivity, quality, and efficiency. Support the documentation, monitoring, and communication of Balanced Scorecard (BSC) metrics, ensuring visibility of performance and progress toward operational goals. Support problem-solving activities and root cause analysis when issues arise. Maintain a positive and collaborative work environment that promotes teamwork and accountability. Escalate issues that impact safety, quality, delivery, or productivity to the Manufacturing Manager. Champion 5’s initiatives and provide coaching and feedback for improvement. Ensure operators follow the production orders on the floor based on the Supervisor Queue and Work Center Console. Perform daily labor review and reconciliation and provide feedback to operators on the production floor to ensure labor is accurately clocked.
Required Skills/Abilities :
Strong leadership and team development skills with the ability to coach and motivate employees. Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with cross-functional teams. Ability to monitor and drive performance aligned with Balanced Scorecard (BSC) metrics. Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities in a manufacturing environment. Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced production setting. Ability to analyze operational data and identify opportunities for improvement. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Ability to promote teamwork, accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement. Ability to present information and facilitate meetings with team members. Moderate level of proficiency with email, Excel, ERP, BI reports and unipoint navigation Basic GD&T skills for inspection of product / components Education and Experience:
Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment. Prior experience in a leadership role such as Team Lead, Lead Operator, or Supervisor preferred. Experience with inspection process, blue prints, quality plans and related inspection equipment. Experience working with production metrics and continuous improvement initiatives is a plus. Knowledge of safety, quality standards, and manufacturing processes preferred. Working with an ERP system and working with data to make production decisions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods on the production floor. Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, keyboards, and monitors. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to occasionally lift and move materials up to 25–30 pounds.
