Description
Description
An internship at onsemi offers a dynamic opportunity to gain hands-on experience through real-world projects that drive innovation in the semiconductor industry. Interns are entrusted with meaningful responsibilities and exposed to cutting-edge technologies, fostering both technical skill development and professional growth.
onsemi views internships as a strategic pipeline for entry-level career positions, providing a collaborative and inclusive environment where interns work alongside diverse teams and contribute to high-impact initiatives. The company’s commitment to sustainability, including its goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2040, enables interns to engage in projects that align with global environmental priorities.
Key benefits include:
· Competitive compensation and medical benefits
· Flexible work hours aligned with academic schedules
· Access to Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) which foster a sense of belonging and provide opportunities for mentorship and community engagement
· Networking events, professional development workshops, and project showcases that build career readiness and visibility across the organization
onsemi is seeking a self-driven and motivated professional to join the device characterization team located in San Jose, California. As an intern, you will have the opportunity to characterize semiconductor devices using both fully automated and semi-automated test equipment to support next generation technology and product development.
Responsibilities
You’ll perform measurements as they come in as well as working on longer term activities relating to improving the operation of our test labs in San Jose. We have a wide range of equipment for characterization of semiconductor devices – automated parametric test systems, semiconductor parameter analyzers, noise characterization systems, TLP testers (used for ESD structure characterization), semi-automatic and automatic probe stations with most testing done at the wafer level.
The lab works on a variety of technologies including image sensors, ASICs, BCD, high voltage, analog mixed signal, and low voltage. You will support daily activities but also will get a chance to work on longer term improvement to have a lasting impact on our lab.
As new technology development requires development of devices which must be characterized, this work is a critical part of the device development process and we are looking for someone who can help improve efficiency.
Some typical activities would be:
· Wafer level measurements on test structures using semiconductor parameter analyzers
· Writing and running test programs on our Keysight/Agilent automatic parametric test systems (code in Rocky Mountain Basic or C)
· Testing ESD (electrostatic discharge) devices using TLP (transmission line pulse) testers
· Performing noise measurements using a flicker noise system
· Writing scripts to summarize large amounts of data using appropriate scripting languages
· Enabling automation to free up test engineering resources to support more measurement activities
Qualifications
Qualifications – External Requirements: In order to be considered for an internship, you must be a student currently enrolled in school pursuing an accredited degree program. This position is specifically looking for candidates who are in graduate school in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Systems Engineering, and similar programs.
· Understand the basic semiconductor device operation and basic circuit operation.
· Experience doing measurements with lab equipment like IV meters, power supplies, and Oscilloscopes.
· Ideally you would have experience with semiconductor measurement equipment like semiconductor parametric analyzers, CV meters, and source measurement units.
· Programming of test applications. Experience with Python, Visual Basic, C or LabView.
· Familiarity with machine learning and AI.
· The ability to solve problems individually or as part of a team.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Here at onsemi we take great pride in our internship program and the efforts we take to provide students with hands-on industry experience. We provide competitive pay medical benefits, various networking event opportunities, and flexible hours based on school schedule. onsemi is excited to share the base salary range for this position is $28.75/hr.
