Description Description of Job Duty: Full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Trumpet, beginning August 2026. Tennessee Tech is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action employer. Responsibilities Essential Functions: Responsibilities include teaching the trumpet studio and directing the trumpet ensemble. Supervise inventory and maintenance of the department’s trumpet equipment. Rehearse and perform as Principal Trumpet with the resident Bryan Symphony Orchestra and Brass Arts Quintet. Administer all aspects of the Tennessee Tech trumpet program. Recruitment of students (especially trumpet majors). Teach Brass Techniques for MUED majors. Other responsibilities, such as classroom instruction in core music courses, may be assigned as determined by the candidate’s qualifications and departmental needs. Build and maintain professional relationships with public school music teachers. Be an active participant in the School of Music. Represent and serve as an advocate for the School of Music, the University, and the greater public. Physical Demands: Those typical of any classroom-type environment or office environment or music performing environment. Special Instructions: Applicants will be required to electronically upload a letter of application; curriculum vitae; email contact information for three references who will be contacted via email to provide a reference letter; the names, addresses, telephone numbers, and email addresses of at least two additional references; and copies of transcripts for all degrees (official transcripts of all degrees conferred and/or documentation of educational qualifications will be required upon hire.) Written materials should demonstrate effective teaching experience in trumpet and other areas of specialty as appropriate to the candidate. In addition, candidates will submit at least 20 minutes’ worth of video or a combination of audio and video recordings of unedited trumpet performances from within the past 5 years, demonstrating multiple styles and settings. Please also submit video evidence of teaching in applied and/or masterclass settings. These recordings should be submitted as a Word file with direct links to the recordings from a file-sharing platform such as YouTube, Vimeo, Dropbox, or something similar. All submitted materials become the property of Tennessee Tech and will not be returned. Submission of materials is the applicant’s responsibility. Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. Full-time, nine-month, tenure-track position to begin August 1, 2026. Benefits Information: The University offers a competitive benefits package. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Earned Doctorate in Music required. (ABD may be considered, but the candidate must be awarded their Doctorate before the August 1, 2026, starting date). Evidence of excellence as a performer and teacher. Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a performer in solo, orchestral, and chamber/quintet settings.
