This is a hands-on role operating with a high degree of autonomy, partnering across IT, Security, and the business to design and run scalable, secure infrastructure across a mix of cloud and legacy systems in a regulated environment.
This individual will lead complex initiatives end-to-end, drive modernization, and improve operational maturity across cloud and on-prem environments. Operating within a lean IT team, the role requires strong ownership, hands-on execution, and the ability to mentor others and influence infrastructure strategy without direct people management.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Execution
Serve as the senior technical lead for infrastructure design, architecture, and operations.
Own and execute complex infrastructure initiatives end-to-end (design → build → optimize).
Act as an escalation point for critical incidents and complex system issues.
Lead by example through hands-on engineering, troubleshooting, and implementation work.
Mentor and guide engineers through technical challenges, design reviews, and best practices (without direct management responsibility).
Collaborate with IT Business Partners to identify and align solutions that balance meeting business needs and technical complexity
Infrastructure Strategy & Modernization
Drive cloud-first and hybrid infrastructure strategy, including migration from legacy systems.
Design and implement scalable solutions across AWS/Azure, on-prem systems, and networking layers.
Partner with IT leadership to shape long-term infrastructure roadmaps and technical standards.
Evaluate emerging technologies and recommend adoption aligned with business needs.
Operational Excellence & Reliability
Design and enhance monitoring, alerting, and observability frameworks.
Improve system reliability through proactive engineering (capacity planning, performance tuning, resilience design).
Lead root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term fixes to reduce incident recurrence.
Optimize operational workflows, including ticket triage, escalation paths, and service ownership.
Define and monitor KPIs, SLAs, and SLOs to ensure service health and performance.
Security, Compliance & Risk Management
Partner closely with Cybersecurity to ensure infrastructure aligns with SOX, GxP, and enterprise security standards.
Implement secure architecture patterns (identity, access, network segmentation, encryption).
Support audit readiness through strong documentation, system configuration visibility, and asset management.
Lead infrastructure contributions to disaster recovery (DR) and business continuity planning (BCP).
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Influence
Work across teams (Applications, Data, Security, PMO) to deliver infrastructure solutions that support business initiatives.
Act as a trusted advisor to leadership on infrastructure capabilities, risks, and trade-offs.
Collaborate with vendors and partners to evaluate and implement solutions.
Drive alignment and adoption of infrastructure standards without formal authority.
Candidate Profile & Requirements:
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience.
8–10+ years of deep, hands-on IT infrastructure experience.
Proven ability to operate independently and lead large technical initiatives without direct reports.
Strong expertise in:

Cloud platforms (AWS and/or Azure)
Networking (firewalls, routing, VPNs, VLANs, subnets), specifically Fortinet
Virtualization (VMware, Hyper-V)
Experience with automation (scripting, Terraform/CloudFormation, etc.)
Strong troubleshooting and systems thinking skills across complex environments.
Experience working in regulated environments (SOX, GxP) preferred.
Excellent communication skills with ability to translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Certifications
AWS Certified Solutions Architect or SysOps Administrator
Microsoft Azure Administrator/Architect
ITIL Foundation (or strong operational process experience)

Our Value Proposition:
This is a uniquely exciting time to join Karyopharm Therapeutics where we are pioneering the science of nuclear export inhibition to develop differentiated therapies for patients with cancer. We are building upon an established commercial foundation in multiple myeloma while advancing the potential of selinexor across additional hematologic and solid tumor cancers including myelofibrosis and TP53 wild-type endometrial cancer, areas where patients continue to face significant unmet needs.
Our lead therapy, XPOVIO® (selinexor), is a first-in-class inhibitor of exportin 1 (XPO1) and is approved in the U.S. for adults with relapsed or refractory multiple myeloma, with approvals in more than 50 countries and territories outside the U.S. We are also exploring opportunities to evaluate XPO1 inhibition across myeloproliferative neoplasms and TP53 wild-type driven solid tumors using next-generation compounds, including eltanexor.
As we prepare for our next phase of growth, we are continuing to invest in critical capabilities across the organization to support future opportunities and deepen our impact in oncology. We are looking for talented people who are motivated by meaningful work, energized by growth and momentum, and excited by the opportunity to help shape what comes next in a collaborative, fast-moving environment where individual contributions are visible and valued.
