Description
Educational Specialist - EHS - Family Child Care
University Settlement partners with 40,000+ New Yorkers in Lower Manhattan and Brooklyn every year to build on our collective strengths as we achieve healthy, stable, and remarkable lives. For nearly 140 years, we’ve fought poverty and systemic inequality by building highly effective social services in collaboration with our neighbors. Established in 1886 as the first Settlement House in the United States, we bring the values of that movement into the 21st century by meeting New Yorkers where they live, listening deeply to all perspectives, and creating space for responsive cooperation.
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to strengthen communities by providing comprehensive services, anticipating future needs, and advocating for justice.
About the Role
We are seeking a Educational Specialist to join our Early Head Start team. This unique program combines Early Head Start and Family Child Care services to provide full-day, home-based childcare and family support for low-income families with children under age four.
As a Educational Specialist, you will play a key role in supporting and coaching Family Child Care Providers to deliver high-quality, developmentally appropriate care for infants and toddlers.
What You’ll Do
Develop and implement curriculum for home-based Family Child Care programs.
Coach providers on lesson planning, addressing mixed-age groups, special needs, and behavior management.
Conduct enhanced home visits to Family Child Care Providers serving Early Head Start children.
Provide on-site training on child development, curriculum planning, daily routines, and space design.
Support providers in completing developmental assessments and maintaining child observations in My Teaching Strategies .
Assist with family recruitment and parent workshops.
Maintain accurate documentation of visits and child development activities.
Offer technical support to childcare providers.
Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
What We’re Looking For
Education: BA in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
Experience: At least 1 year of classroom experience and/or curriculum development for infants and toddlers.
Skills: Strong knowledge of child development (birth to age 3), excellent communication and writing skills.
Language: Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
Why Join Us?
Make a lasting impact on families and children in NYC.
Be part of a mission-driven organization with a 135-year legacy.
Collaborative and supportive work environment.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm, 35 hours per week
What We Offer:
Paid Time Off: A comprehensive package that includes vacation, sick, and personal days, along with paid holidays.
Health and Wellness Benefits: Robust medical, dental, and vision coverage, as well as short‑ and long‑term disability insurance, life insurance, and additional wellness resources to support your overall well‑being.
Financial Benefits: Access to pre‑tax savings programs—including flexible spending accounts and commuter benefits—and a 403(b) retirement plan that includes an employer match of 6% of your salary, eligible after one year of service.
Work‑Life Balance: A consistent Monday–Friday schedule and a 35‑hour workweek designed to promote a healthy and sustainable work‑life balance.
Professional Development: Opportunities for continuous growth through internal and external training, professional development workshops, tuition assistance, and support for pursuing relevant certifications.
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive community. We support a broadly diverse team that will contribute to our organization. We are an equal opportunity employer for all regardless of race, color, citizenship, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, veteran or reservist status, or any other category protected by federal, state, or local law.
