ALL APPLICANTS MUST BE CERTIFIED AS CURRENT TEXAS BASIC FIREFIGHTER AND PARAMEDIC AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION SUBMISSION.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:</strong></p><ol><li>Reports to: Lieutenant&nbsp;&nbsp;</li><li>Directs: None</li><li>Other: Will have dealings with all employees and general public</li></ol><p><strong>EXAMPLES OF WORK:</strong></p><ul><li>Perform general fire suppression, prevention and emergency medical functions quickly and efficiently on an assigned apparatus.&nbsp;</li><li>Respond to both non-emergency and emergency fire, rescue and medical emergencies safely, efficiently and effectively.</li><li>Have good knowledge of modern principles, practices and procedures of the department and related department regulations.&nbsp;</li><li>Have good knowledge and skills in the use of and care of all fire and EMS equipment.</li><li>Have good knowledge of emergency medical techniques and procedures.</li><li>Take an active part in all training sessions, participate in public education programs.</li><li>Participate in emergency management activities as required.</li><li>Perform cleaning and maintenance on equipment and facilities.</li><li>Accurately and professionally prepare reports and maintain files.</li><li>Maintain physical activity over prolonged periods of time including walking, kneeling and stooping in awkward positions, and moving/lifting heavy objects up to 100 pounds.</li><li>May be required to perform other duties as assigned.</li></ul><p><strong>REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:</strong></p><p><br></p><p>Strong knowledge of city and departmental policy, and local, state, and federal laws. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict-resolution skills. Ability to think clearly and act decisively under pressure. Proficient with computers, report writing software, and standard fire and EMS tools. Physical ability to perform the duties.&nbsp;</p><p><br></p><p><strong>CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES REQUIRED:</strong></p><ul><li>High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.</li><li>Must be a certified Texas Basic Firefighter and Paramedic or eligible for licensing through TCFP and TDSHS.</li><li>Must be at least 18 years of age.</li><li>Valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.</li><li>No felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.</li></ul><p><strong>ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS &amp; CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p><ul><li>The firefighter job position requires both office-based work and field presence during emergency responses and training evolutions.</li><li>Must be able to work extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.</li><li>Physical ability to perform firefighting and emergency medical tasks when required.</li><li>May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry and vision to monitor.</li><li>May be subject to exposure to extreme weather conditions.&nbsp;</li><li>May involve physical exertion and exposure to potentially dangerous or life-threatening situations.</li><li>Must be able to pass physical fitness tests, drug screening, and comprehensive background check.</li></ul><p><br></p><p>The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed as of the date of preparation and approval.
