The Lansing School District serves over 10,000 PreK-12 students across 25 school buildings in the increasingly diverse urban community of Lansing, MI. This job description is intended to outline the general responsibilities and qualifications for the position. Minimum Qualifications
Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate (or eligible to receive one based on Bachelor's degree in education)
Previous teaching or counseling experience
Alignment with Lansing School District's mission and values
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree in Educational Leadership or related field
Five or more years of successful teaching or counseling experience in an urban school setting
Sample Job Responsibilities
Monitor and manage behavioral suspensions
Implement programs to develop student character and discipline in line with District standards
Advise parents on student behavior matters and effective discipline programs
Create and oversee student intervention plans
Coordinate and lead various student programs and activities, ensuring adherence to District policies
Collect and analyze data related to student behavior, attendance, and academic outcomes
Communicate with parents, teachers, school leaders, and other school stakeholders about student discipline related incidences
Stay up-to-date with relevant policies and research regarding school accountability, student achievement, and student engagement strategies
Other duties as assigned to best support the Lansing School District mission
Work Environment & physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
Primarily sedentary work involving extended periods of sitting and computer use.
Occasional walking or standing within an office or school building to retrieve files, assist visitors, or attend meetings.
Frequent verbal and written communication using phone, email, and in-person interactions.
Daily use of office technology including computers, printers, and phones.
May occasionally lift or move materials or packages weighing up to 20 pounds.
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
