Description
SUMMARY
The College of Science, technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) at Harris-Stowe State University is seeking to launch a new academic program in forensic chemistry by hiring a qualified instructor to teach organic and/or forensic organic chemistry courses. The Appointment is for AY2026-27 and starts as early as January 01, 2026. The appointment is eligible for renewal and for progression to tenure status based on funding and performance. This position is 100% grant funded for a 3-year period.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepares and delivers lectures, leads discussions, and performs other activities which are related to, and meet, course requirements for relevant Chemistry course(s).
• Maintains course syllabi and provides each student with a written statement of course requirements at the beginning of each semester.
• Conducts appropriate evaluations of students’ performances and assigns grades based on those evaluations.
• Maintains and provides reports and/or records of student grades and attendance according to University requirements.
• Becomes familiar with, utilizes and/or adheres to institutional and college tools and policies, including the Canvas Learning Management System, attendance, grade-reporting and record-keeping.
• Attend faculty-specific orientation meetings with the Dean, Chair, and/or with the institution.
• Contribute to the development of the new chemistry academic program, focused on forensic chemistry.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate must possess a Doctorate or a Master’s Degree in Chemistry, with a concentration in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field, from an accredited university. In addition, a minimum of eighteen (18) credit hours of graduate level coursework must be related to the area of instruction.
OTHER REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Strong understanding of the pedagogies of University level teaching, particularly for first generation University students.
• Good Knowledge of principles and theory of teaching field.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students and University community.
