JOB TITLE: Mental Health Clinician
EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full-Time
REPORTS TO: Mental Health Clinician Supervisor
LOCATION: Queens, NY
SALARY: $76,000 - $83,000

For over 30 years, the Arab-American Family Support Center (AAFSC) has proudly served immigrants and refugees. We help children stay safe, families remain together, and newcomers navigate life in New York City. While our doors are open to all, AAFSC has expertise in serving Arab, Middle Eastern, North African, Muslim, and South Asian communities.
JOB SUMMARY:
The Mental Health Clinician demonstrates knowledge of and utilizes trauma-informed practices, including emotional intelligence, effective communication, understanding of impact of trauma on development, strengths-based and person-centered practice, resilience focus and commitment to growth and change. The Clinician will hold an active caseload referred to them by programs across the agency. A background in evidence-based practice and working with teams to incorporate evidence-based practices into case and program practice is highly desirable.
The person in this role will be organized, have high attention to detail, maintain confidentiality and act with the utmost discretion as well as act as an ambassador & champion of AAFSC. A commitment to immigrant, refugee and low-income communities is essential for this role.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carry a caseload as assigned by supervisor. Perform accountability tasks related to the job, which include compiling and maintaining all necessary records. Conduct assessments including review of referral information, identifying and engaging key participants, and identifying systemic strengths and weaknesses. Maintain clear and concise documentation of treatment efforts and completes clinical notes in a timely manner through Theranest platform. Assist staff in collection of outcome data and pre and post assessments. Build relationships with community stakeholders (i.e., child protection services, parents & guardians, schools, etc.) to ensure cooperation among service providers. Ability to conduct clinical sessions in office, in client home as needed, and virtually as needed. May supervise MSW, MHC, MFT Interns.
Other duties and responsibilities
Participate in AAFSC meetings and trainings, as well as any off-site meetings and trainings assigned by supervisor. Perform other duties assigned as necessary by the Mental Health Clinician Supervisor.
BACKGROUND AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS
U.S. Work Authorization required. Individual should be a LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LMSW, or license-eligible MSW, MFT, or MHC; other credentialed individuals in the mental health field are also welcome to apply. Bilingual proficiency is strongly preferred and considered an asset in providing culturally responsive and linguistically accessible services to diverse client populations. Demonstrates commitment to being trauma informed and maintaining a therapeutic environment and community that promotes safety and nonviolence as the basis for all we do with clients and staff. Demonstrates knowledge and utilization of trauma-informed practices, including emotional intelligence, effective communication, understanding of impact of trauma on development, strengths-based and person-centered practice, resilience focus and commitment to growth and change. A background in evidence-based practice and working with teams to incorporate evidence- based practices into case and program practice is highly desirable. A background in using the following Family Functional Therapy tools to systematically monitor & evaluate the following areas at the initiation of treatment (baseline), during treatment, and at the end of treatment (discharge) is desired: Child, youth & adult functioning (MH & substance abuse screening) Family Functioning (risk & protective factors) Family Stability & caregiver/parental strain Family Risk Assessment (family risk level for domestic violence) Trauma exposure & symptoms Treatment Impact Therapeutic Alliance Therapeutic Progress Demonstrates cultural competency or a willingness to learn about the cultural backgrounds of our community members, many of whom identify as Arab, Middle Eastern, North African, Muslim and/or South Asian (AMENAMSA). Fosters a strengths-based, trauma-informed, accountable, committed and motivated environment. Excellent writing skills; strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Able to properly and accurately maintain electronic case notes and filing systems. Must be able to exercise initiative, independent good judgment, flexibility, discretion, and solid decision-making. Must be able to maintain client confidentiality. Must be able to work collaboratively with all layers of the organization. Passion for AAFSC’s mission and vision.
