Description
The Director of Housing provides leadership, direction, and oversight for the College’s residential housing program, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging living-learning environment that supports student success and well-being. This position is responsible for the overall administration of housing operations, residential education, staff supervision, student conduct, facilities coordination, and emergency response. The Director works closely with campus partners to foster a supportive residential experience.
This position requires availability to work some nights and weekends, including on-call responsibilities, housing operations, campus events, and student emergencies.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all campus housing operations, including occupancy management, room assignments, housing contracts, waitlists, and facility utilization. Oversee housing opening and closing processes for residence halls, including fall opening, winter break closing, spring opening, and end-of-year closing. Coordinate logistics, staffing, communications, and timelines for all housing transitions. Manage residence hall key systems, including key inventory, audits, and coordination with Campus Safety and Facilities. Collaborate with Facilities, Campus Safety, and other departments to address maintenance, safety, and operational concerns within residence halls. Develop, implement, and evaluate housing policies, procedures, and protocols. Oversee housing-related communications to students and families. Residential Education & Staff Supervision
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all housing and residence life staff. Directly supervise Assistant Hall Directors, providing leadership, coaching, professional development, and performance evaluation. Ensure appropriate staffing coverage and duty rotations for residence halls. Foster a professional, student-centered residential life team culture. RA Program & Training
Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and evaluate Resident Assistants (RAs). Design, run, and oversee comprehensive RA training, including pre-semester training, ongoing development, and leadership education. Ensure RAs are equipped to support student engagement, conflict resolution, crisis response, and community development. Provide mentorship and leadership development opportunities for student staff. Student Conduct, Conflict Management & BIT
Serve as a conduct officer and oversee the residential student conduct process in alignment with College policies. Investigate, adjudicate, and resolve conduct cases, including those related to housing, community standards, and behavioral concerns. Assist students with conflict management, mediation, and problem-solving related to roommate disputes, community concerns, and interpersonal challenges. Train residential staff on conflict resolution strategies, conduct procedures, documentation, and educational sanctioning. Maintain accurate conduct and case records while ensuring fair, consistent, and educational outcomes. Serve as a member of the College’s Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), contributing to the assessment, coordination, and response to students of concern. Student Support & Crisis Management
Respond to student crises and emergencies, including after-hours situations. Participate in an on-call rotation and be available for nights and weekends as required. Collaborate with Student Counseling and Wellness Center, Student Health Clinic, Campus Safety, Student Success, Academic Affairs, and other partners to support student well-being. Provide guidance, assessment, and intervention in complex student situations, including those involving safety, mental health, or community impact. Leadership & Collaboration
Serve as a key member of the Student Affairs and Campus Life leadership team. Collaborate with campus partners to support student retention, engagement, and success. Participate in orientation, move-in, move-out, homecoming and major campus events. Support and advance diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives within residential communities. Other Duties & Responsibilities: · Other duties as assigned
Supervision: Supervises 20 to 30 student employees and provides relevant administrative training.
