The Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa is a luxury property that features four penthouse suites and over 22,000 square feet of meeting space that includes stunning and expansive exterior spaces. Banquets, the Coastal Kitchen and Schooners Bar restaurants, Tidal Coffee, and Room Service provide various outstanding dining options. The Lobby Lounge features libations, small bites, and live music most evenings. The Vista Blue Spa offers a wide array of services in a magnificent location on the penthouse suite level and is host to our Fitness Center. Shopping options include the Vista Blue Spa, Tidal Coffee, the Front Desk or via our onsite retail partners. Our group and leisure guests have spoken through Trip Advisor, ranking the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa in first place for both business and leisure travel in Monterey year after year. We are seeking a bartender to join our outstanding team.
Masters at Mixology, our bartenders are able to craft the perfect drink for every occasion. Their wine knowledge is exceptional and they delight in helping guest discover the wonderful bounty that California offers. They create and serve alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks to patrons of bar by performing the duties listed.
Greet every guest in a friendly and courteous manner. Stock bar as assigned. Clean bar and liquor storage areas as assigned. Prepare and serve cocktail orders in a timely manner. Follow all safety, hygiene and cleanliness protocols at all times. Checks guest identifications. Takes orders from customers or food servers. Mixes ingredients such as liquor, soda, water, sugar, and bitters to prepare cocktails and other drinks. Serves wine and draught or bottled beer. Merchandise and suggestive sell specialty drinks and wine special to the guest. Collects money for drinks served. Balance bank and daily receipts. Orders or requisitions liquors and supplies. Arranges bottles and glasses to make attractive display. Slices and pits fruit for garnishing drinks. All other duties as the supervisor. Change to “Maintain presence at the service bar to facilitate restaurant drink production. Change to “Clean and replenish glassware for the restaurant operation.” QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Displays knowledge of drink recipes, drink and wine merchandising specials. Knowledge of basic drink service and bar terminology. Knowledgeable of state and federal liquor laws. Must be able to detect and act professionally when a guest is intoxicated. Read write and speak English fluently. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. The ability to effectively deal with customers some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact and diplomacy to diffuse anger. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Knowledgeable of third party liability. Excellent organizational skills. Able to communicate effectively with guest and other team members. Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the Hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with the hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of the hotel facilities.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High school diploma is preferred. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school or any other combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge skills and abilities. One year prior bartending experience is preferred, TIPS training certification is preferred
