The ideal candidate will have deep, specialized experience in the design of roadway and railroad bridges, exceptional knowledge of Caltrans design standards, and a proven track record of successful project delivery from planning through final design.</span></p><p style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\">This role requires a proactive and self-motivated professional capable of managing project budgets, mentoring junior staff, and serving as a technical resource for our Structures group.</span></p><p style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\">Primary Job Duties:</span></p><ul><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\">Technical Leadership &amp; Design<ol style=\"font-family: initial; font-size: initial;\"><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Serve as Engineer-of-Record and technical lead for all phases of transportation structure projects, with a focus on roadway, highway, and railroad bridge design (e.g., box girders, pre-stressed concrete, steel plate girders, seismic retrofit).</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Perform, check, and seal advanced structural design calculations, quantities, and cost estimates in full compliance with Caltrans Bridge Design Specifications (BDS), Seismic Design Criteria (SDC), and other relevant Caltrans manuals and standards.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Lead the preparation and documentation of Bridge Selection Reports (BSRs), Type Selection, and Type Approval documents, including the analysis of alternative bridge types, feasibility, and cost-benefit assessments for different clients.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Develop final plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&amp;E) packages, ensuring quality assurance and adherence to all client and regulatory requirements.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Oversee the structural detailing and plan production using specialized software (MicroStation/AutoCAD).</li></ol></li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\">Project and Client Management:<ol style=\"font-family: initial; font-size: initial;\"><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Manage project budgets, scopes, and schedules for structures tasks, ensuring deliverables are met on time and within budget.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Interface directly with Caltrans personnel, regional agencies (MPOs/Cities/Counties), rail transportation agencies (UPRR, BNSF, Metro, CA HSR) and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate design efforts and resolve technical issues.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Prepare fee proposals for structural engineering design and construction observation work, contributing to the firm&rsquo;s business development efforts.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Conduct field assessments, site visits, and inspection of existing and new structures/facilities as necessary, particularly for scoping and preliminary design phases.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Mentor and provide technical guidance to entry-level and intermediate engineering staff, fostering continuous professional development within the Structures group.</li></ol></li></ul><p style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><br></p><p style=\"line-height: 1.5;\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px;\"><strong><u>Job Qualifications (Education, Experience, and Skills):</u></strong>&nbsp;</span></p><ul><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Minimum of a bachelor&rsquo;s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Master&rsquo;s degree in structural engineering preferred</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Must have a minimum experience of ten (10) years in bridge design</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Demonstrate in-depth knowledge of Caltrans policies, procedures, standard plans, and design manuals (BDS, SDC, etc.).</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Proven experience in successfully completing key project phases, including the preparation of Bridge Selection Reports (BSRs) and Type Selection.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Experience with different bridge substructure and superstructure types common in California.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Required P.E. certification in Civil Engineering (CA), certification in additional states is a plus.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">S.E. certification in California is a plus.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Eligibility for PE registration in adjacent southwestern states (AZ, NV) is a plus.</li><li style=\"font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 18px; line-height: 1.5;\">Experience in DOT and municipality in all facets of engineering for CA.
