Humboldt Senior Resource Center is looking for a part-time Coordinator for our Meals on Wheels Program. The schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 11:30 am to 4:30 pm (25 hours a week).
JOB SUMMARY: R esponsible for managing participant intake, referrals, and assessments to ensure timely delivery of meals to eligible members of the aging population and adults with disabilities. This position maintains the program wait-list, realigns meal routes as needed, and partners with Dining Center Coordinators and drivers to support efficient operations. The MOW Coordinator supervises substitute drivers and program volunteers, oversees recordkeeping and reporting, and conducts outreach to promote community awareness. This role plays a key part in supporting the nutritional needs and independence of the aging population while ensuring compliance with program regulations and agency values.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Coordinates services under the agency’s Meals on Wheels Program (a.k.a. Home Delivered Meals [HDM]).
Maintains a working knowledge of the Older Americans Act (Title III) Home Delivered Meal Program and Title 22 regulations and ensures program compliance.
Answers all program inquiries from the public and outside agencies.
Enrolls eligible participants in the program. Conducts initial intake and determined appropriate meal route assignments.
Maintains program wait-list including candidates who are awaiting program entry and the appropriate meal route for their pending placement.
Ensures that services begin as soon as possible. Contacts all candidates who have been on the waitlist for over three (3) months.
Processes entry/exits to/from the program and maintains the “add/cancel” list.
Maintains meal routes at full participant capacity.
Realigns and reassigns meal routes in order to minimize the waitlist.
Conducts all initial home visits and assessments of participants.
Ensures that recurring assessments are completed in accordance with program regulations.
Provides Dining Center Coordinators with all necessary information for new participants.
Partners with Dining Center Coordinators to ensure meal routes run smoothly and efficiently. Assists with the resolution of various issues that arise with participants or meal delivery.
Supervises Substitute Meals on Wheels Drivers and schedules coverage for regular drivers at all the Dining Center locations.
Coordinates with the Program Assistant to maintain and update all participant files for the program.
Prepares and distributes the monthly program report.
Participates in outreach with various local organizations to ensure service goals are met and to promote community awareness of the program.
Coordinates the program’s holiday gift event for participants in conjunction with the local Philanthropic Educational Organization (PEO).
Recruits, trains, and oversees program volunteers to assist with various program initiatives including annual telephone reassessments.
Serves as a back-up Site Coordinator and Meals on Wheels Driver as needed.
Participates in consultations with the Area 1 Agency on Aging’s Registered Dietitian regarding various issues which affect program participants.
Facilitates education and reminders for participants to provide contributions toward the program which is donation-based.
Refers participants to appropriate internal and external resources as applicable, including the Nutrition department’s Social Worker, Area 1 Agency on Aging’s Information and Assistance service, case management, etc.
Provides input on training topics for Meals on Wheels Drivers. Assists with developing and conducting meal delivery training.
Serves as a supervisor to student interns and volunteers working within the professional discipline and program area. Participates actively in their training as a guide, teacher, and mentor.
Demonstrates behaviors consistent with agency values: Respect, Patient, Courteous, Tolerant, Friendly, and Teamwork.
Additional duties may be assigned, as needed, that align with the responsibilities of the position and support the vision, mission, and values of the organization.
Qualifications
EDUCATION &/or EXPERIENCE :
High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience working with vulnerable populations.
Must have a minimum of one (1) year experience or education in community nutrition, social work, psychology, gerontology, management, or another related field.
LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES :
Valid California Driver’s License, and personal auto liability insurance required. Must have a personal vehicle in good driving/operating condition, insured for State minimum liability requirements, and that can be used for the applicable job functions noted above.
Current CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire.
PRE-SCREENING REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the successful completion of a background check.
A current Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) is required to determine eligibility for driving on behalf of the organization.
COVID-19 and Influenza (flu) vaccines preferred.

SUPERVISORY REQUIREMENTS :
This position supervises the following employees: Substitute Meals on Wheels Drivers.
In coordination with Human Resources and other supervisory staff, oversees hiring, orienting, training, evaluating, disciplining, and terminating of specified departmental staff.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires the ability to perform light to moderate physical activity in both office and field settings. Duties may involve sitting for extended periods while completing documentation, as well as standing, walking, bending, and reaching during home visits, program outreach, and meal delivery support. The role requires the ability to lift, carry, and transport meal carriers or supplies weighing up to 50 pounds, and to safely enter and exit participant homes, including navigating stairs or uneven surfaces. Occasional driving is required to conduct site visits, assessments, and provide coverage for meal delivery.
