JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a highly-motivated, entrepreneurial candidate for the Chief Engineer for our Mission Equipment company.
This challenging role will include leadership and development of a dedicated team of engineers responsible for research, design, and sustaining engineering of aircraft interior equipment installed in over 40 different aircraft models in both the fixed wing and rotary wing markets.
The ideal candidate will have a proven record of successfully leading an enterprise’s engineering strategic goals, leading diverse engineering teams along with a strong background of being a technical contributor.
Must have a broad experience in interior aircraft engineering and certification to support a diverse product line mix including air medical transport systems, ballistic protection (armor), dynamic aircraft seating, and VIP/Head of State interior/cabinetry. Our product lines are mostly low volume, high mix custom products, requiring an entrepreneurial application of limited engineering resources and a passion for efficiency.
The Chief Engineer will provide overall leadership and accountability for all engineering strategy, leadership and technical aspects from proposals, to design, to production liaison, and customer support. They will be expected to manage and develop a high-performance team in a rapidly changing and growing business environment and will have a demonstrated ability to negotiate statements of work and technical requirements. The position requires extensive experience in prioritization, planning of resources and budget development, along with a proven track record of driving accountability and through an organization.
The candidate must be a strong communicator of the company’s business and engineering strategy along with the ability to effectively explain technical concepts to a wide range of audiences. Furthermore they must be capable of adapting to rapidly changing business conditions and be effective working with civilian and military customers, the FAA, and other company managers.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated the ability to plan, implement, and improve both long-term and short-term initiatives. This candidate will have a keen interest in increasing productivity and efficiency of the engineering department and the company as a whole, removing barriers, improving quality, eliminating waste, trying new ideas, and streamlining existing processes.
This position also requires coordination with core Sikorsky Engineering to ensure that all programs and initiatives can leverage the technology and experience of the parent organization.
Primary Responsibilities include:
- Strategic planning of and leading high level product development initiatives
- Overall leadership, of business processes, and resource planning (people, capital, expenses)
- Leadership of senior engineering staff and management; overseeing R&D, Design, Certification, Configuration Management, and Production Engineering.
- Developing and mentoring engineering supervisors and managers
- Improving productivity and efficiency of the Engineering group while maintaining a culture of quality and safety.
- Customer management and setting of expectations
- Coordinate with Certification Manager on new and revised interior aircraft STC projects, and TSO seating projects.
- Proposal estimating oversight and contract negotiation for new business
- Tracking & reporting engineering metrics, schedules and financial information to management
IDEAL CANDIDATE
Experience leading talented engineers who design, prototype, build, custom aftermarket products for aircraft that utilize air medical evacuation, VVIP/Head of State Interiors, and ballistics protection.
Overall, someone who is successful in a high mix low volume engineering design program.
IDEAL CANDIDATE SHOULD HAVE WORKED FOR THE FOLLOWING COMPANY(IES): High Mix low volume custom aftermarket aerospace products.
