Crossing guards are to assist in the safe crossing of all elementary and middle school-aged children at the post and assist other pedestrians. </span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-weight: bold\">ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS</span></span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Expedite the movement of children to and from school at assigned posts during gaps in traffic.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Assemble children and other pedestrians behind curb lines awaiting traffic lulls or signal changes.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Stop traffic and verbally instruct pedestrians to cross into the street allowing them to cross safely.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Instruct children in proper procedures for safe street crossing.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Report students who do not adhere to safe street crossing procedures to appropriate municipal officials.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Report any unsafe conditions or potential hazards at assigned post to supervisor.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Wear the entire school guard uniform.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-size: 12pt\"><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif\">Maintains regular and punctual attendance at designated post.</span><br></span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt; font-size: 12pt\">Turn head and body to observe traffic and children approaching crosswalk.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Agility to lift both feet over curb and steps off curb; can react and move quickly to avoid vehicles</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Speaks clearly and firmly to instruct pedestrians.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Tolerance for rain, fog, snow, sleet, ice, frequent extreme cold &amp; heat, dryness, humidity, wind as well as noise, fumes, dust and mechanical hazards.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Vision to observe vehicles and pedestrians and potentially dangerous traffic situations.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Hearing to recognize vehicles, horns, children approaching from any direction.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 12pt\">Assist school children across a highway and maintain control of the post, including being alert and cognizant of multiple surroundings and ever changing conditions.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;
