Description

The Greenville Technical College English department in the School of Arts Sciences invites applications for Instructor/Assistant Professor. The department serves approximately 7,000 students in an academic year. Currently the department employs 22 full-time faculty and 15 part-time instructors. The English department is fully committed to offering high quality education in composition courses and business writing, as well as a wide variety of literature courses including American and British literature, world and minority literature, short fiction, children's and women's studies, and creative writing. The department offers its courses in three formats: traditional, hybrid, and online. In addition, the department of English also participates in the Early College program, which provides high school students access to college courses. This position would primarily require teaching Dual Enrollment students (high school students enrolled in Early College classes) at the high schools, depending on need, as an expected job duty. In this challenging role, you will be supporting the ENG-English department at Greenville Technical College. Duties may include any or all of the following: Provide students with course syllabus and policies; relate instructional materials, discussions, and other activities to course objectives; demonstrate effective interaction skills using practical examples and illustrations that stimulate learning; relate assessments to course objectives; and return graded work in a timely manner. Submit reports in a timely manner, arrange physical environment for effective learning, adhere to class schedules, and maintain accurate records. Develop and/or modify course content as appropriate, develop and maintain course documentation, review and select texts, schedule and utilize class time effectively. Maintain required office hours, refer students for assistance (tutoring and similar) as needed, maintain records per policies, and provide regular contact with assigned advisees. Cover classes as needed for multiple campuses as well as day, evening, or online classes. Adapt to the needs of students (traditional and Early College) to different teaching situations and the ability to motivate students. Work in teams and independently. Adhere to departmental and college guidelines, including those of Early College when applicable.
