Speech-Language Pathologist

Hearing and Speech Nova Scotia (HSNS) provides audiology services to Nova Scotians of all ages, and speech-language pathology services to preschool children and adults. HSNS is funded by the NS Government to deliver integrated and standardized provincial services across 37 clinical sites, located in 26 communities. Nationally certified Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists, with support from Communication Disorder Technicians and Administrative Support Professionals, provide core services (prevention, diagnosis, and treatment), develop and monitor provincial clinical standards, and collaborate with partners to deliver a number of special programs (e.g., Autism, Stroke, Cochlear Implant). Established in 1963, HSNS works to prevent and reduce the impact of communication disorders for Nova Scotians.

We are accepting applications for the temporary, full-time (1.0 FTE) position of Speech-Language Pathologist. The home base site is Sydney. The successful candidate reports to the assigned Manager. This position supports autistic children and their families. The caseload assignment may include any of the services included within the Provincial Preschool Autism Service (e.g., Intensive Service, Focused Intervention, Early Start Denver Model, QuickStart Nova Scotia, Foundational Education).
Requirements:
-Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology
-Nova Scotia College of Audiologists & Speech-Language Pathologists (NSCASLP) licensure or eligible for licensure
-Effective communication skills, including proficiency in written and spoken English. If English is not your first language further documents will be required.
-Flexibility in work schedule to provide evening/weekend services
-Flexibility to travel on occasion to attend continuing education, events and/or meetings
-Candidates will have to demonstrate current immunization and/or boosters at the end of the probationary period
-Experience with provision of pediatric speech and language assessment and treatment
-Familiarity with a variety of service delivery options for pediatric caseloads
-Knowledge of discipline specific best practices in assessment and early intervention of young children with developmental disabilities, specifically those with autism
-Demonstrated commitment to family-centered care
-Valid Nova Scotia driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle
Assets:
-Experience with off-site/home-based service delivery model
-Experience working with interprofessional clinical teams and/or working with supportive personnel
-Recent experience with autism assessment and treatment
-Experience with provision of services via telepractice
-Experience providing caregiver training and/or coaching
-Experience in provision of alternative and augmentative communication systems
-Ability to communicate in multiple languages in a clinical setting
-Training and knowledge of Pivotal Response Treatment and Picture Exchange Communication System
-Lived experience with a communication difference
-Able to start immediately
