ASSISTANT COACH JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Statement/Summary
The Assistant Coach is responsible for assisting the Head Coach in all management aspects of his/her team. The Assistant Coach must assist the Head Coach with practice, games and recruitment of players each season in accordance with University and NAIA rules and regulations. Assistant Coaches must make prospective student-athletes aware of all policies and procedures in the University Regulations and the Athletic Handbook.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position
Instructing student-athletes in all aspects of the sport and establishing adherence guidelines associated with NAIA Mid-South conference rules as well as the University’s policies
Instruction/establishment of comprehensive safety method and standards for student-athletes
Research and preparation of academic teaching methodology relating to sport
Assist with the coordination, planning and development of the sport program
Leading and monitoring both training and practice sessions
Develop and maintain effective interaction with students, staff, alumni, parents, etc.
Mentoring and supporting each student-athlete to maximize their academic success
Review of films to continually improve the success of the program
Evaluate any players
Ensure that injured players receive appropriate care
Schedule games and practices seeking to minimize scheduling conflicts as much as practicable and to maximize fan participation to the extent possible
Attend all practices having a clear and organized practice plan
Transport the team to away contests, by either driving or having a driver arranged
Assist in managing the team budget
Assist in managing team fundraising efforts
Attend all coaches meetings
Assist in handling all aspects of camps and clinics offered
Consistently communicate with the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director regarding matters related to the program when necessary
Consistently communicate with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Athletic Director regarding all eligibility and scholarship offers when necessary
Assist in managing all recruiting, practice, and travel forms
Assist in managing game day operations
Adhere to the Athletic Department’s Regulations
Adhere to and promote the University and the Athletic Department mission, philosophy, and objectives
Adhere to and promote University policy and all respects
General maintenance to the fields, weight rooms and gyms, which may require lifting or moving of equipment weighing 50 pounds
Must be able to stand for long periods of time
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Abilities, Knowledge
This is a twelve month position reporting to the Head Coach and Athletic Director. The Assistant Coach must have a strong commitment to Athletics and exceptional independent judgment, problem solving, planning skills, and the ability to effectively motivate student-athletes. The Assistant Coach must have the knowledge to teach the sport and the ability to recruit. The Assistant Coach must display professionalism in all aspects of the position.
Education
Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred
Related Work Experience
1-3 years of college coaching experience preferred
Working Conditions
Work is conducted in a high-paced and very stressful environment. Assistant Coaches are generally in high-profile positions.

Assistant Coaches must make prospective student-athletes aware of all policies and procedures in the University Regulations and the Athletic Handbook.\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nEssential Functions and Responsibilities of the Position\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n\\tInstructing student-athletes in all aspects of the sport and establishing adherence guidelines associated with NAIA Mid-South conference rules as well as the University’s policies\\r\\n\\tInstruction/establishment of comprehensive safety method and standards for student-athletes \\r\\n\\tResearch and preparation of academic teaching methodology relating to sport\\r\\n\\tAssist with the coordination, planning and development of the sport program \\r\\n\\tLeading and monitoring both training and practice sessions\\r\\n\\tDevelop and maintain effective interaction with students, staff, alumni, parents, etc. \\r\\n\\tMentoring and supporting each student-athlete to maximize their academic success \\r\\n\\tReview of films to continually improve the success of the program \\r\\n\\tEvaluate any players\\r\\n\\tEnsure that injured players receive appropriate care\\r\\n\\tSchedule games and practices seeking to minimize scheduling conflicts as much as practicable and to maximize fan participation to the extent possible\\r\\n\\tAttend all practices having a clear and organized practice plan\\r\\n\\tTransport the team to away contests, by either driving or having a driver arranged\\r\\n\\tAssist in managing the team budget\\r\\n\\tAssist in managing team fundraising efforts\\r\\n\\tAttend all coaches meetings\\r\\n\\tAssist in handling all aspects of camps and clinics offered\\r\\n\\tConsistently communicate with the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director regarding matters related to the program when necessary\\r\\n\\tConsistently communicate with the Faculty Athletic Representative and Athletic Director regarding all eligibility and scholarship offers when necessary\\r\\n\\tAssist in managing all recruiting, practice, and travel forms\\r\\n\\tAssist in managing game day operations \\r\\n\\tAdhere to the Athletic Department’s Regulations\\r\\n\\tAdhere to and promote the University and the Athletic Department mission, philosophy, and objectives\\r\\n\\tAdhere to and promote University policy and all respects\\r\\n\\tGeneral maintenance to the fields, weight rooms and gyms, which may require lifting or moving of equipment weighing 50 pounds\\r\\n\\tMust be able to stand for long periods of time\\r\\n\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nJOB REQUIREMENTS AND PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nSkills, Abilities, Knowledge\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nThis is a twelve month position reporting to the Head Coach and Athletic Director. The Assistant Coach must have a strong commitment to Athletics and exceptional independent judgment, problem solving, planning skills, and the ability to effectively motivate student-athletes. The Assistant Coach must have the knowledge to teach the sport and the ability to recruit. The Assistant Coach must display professionalism in all aspects of the position.  \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nEducation\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nBachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nRelated Work Experience\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n1-3 years of college coaching experience preferred\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nWorking Conditions\\r\\n\\r\\n \\r\\n\\r\\nWork is conducted in a high-paced and very stressful environment.
