Description The music instructor is a full‐time, 10-month salaried position responsible for a variety of educational instruction in the field of instrumental music. These responsibilities involve the development and implementation of the syllabus, the achievement of student learning outcomes, the evaluation of student performance, record-keeping, and related activities. Related activities include, but are not limited to, advising, serving on various committees, coordinating with area K-12 schools and other colleges and universities, participate in recruiting and retention efforts, and participating in professional activities and organizations. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Assist with athletic bands, conduct concert band, teach applied percussion, direct instrumental chamber ensembles as needed. Instruct music appreciation courses as needed. Responsible for band instrument and equipment inventory, including distribution and maintenance. Recruiting prospective music majors as well as non-majors to perform in student ensembles. Prepare, administer, and grade periodic tests, assignments and/or program assessment data. Maintain record of student attendance as required by the Mississippi Community College Board. Answers directly to the District Director of Fine Arts Instruction on all matters except those that are band and recruiting related wherein the Director of Bands has a supervisory role MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Master’s degree in music Teaching experience in k-12 schools (instrumental music) Professional performance experience as percussionist Experience with designing and installing marching band field show sound systems Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills with students PREFERRED: Terminal degree in music Teaching experience in higher education (instrumental music) Experience with classroom technology Experience with outcome and program assessment Ability to use Microsoft office, Office 365, Canvas, and Outlook OTHER RELEVANT KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge and support of college policies and procedures Must have the ability and vocabulary required to communicate with all levels of staff, faculty, students, and the public in the performance of the job APPILICATION: Prospective candidates must apply through the NWCC application portal and upload the following files.
