SUMMARY The Dental Hygiene Operations Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting the dentists in the examination and treatment of patients, while managing dental offices. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 1. Perform reception duties as needed for the Dental Hygiene Clinic, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and registering patients. 2. Manage patient records. 3. Assist in screening of potential dental hygiene patients. 4. Maintain supply inventory records. 5. Receive and store Clinic supplies. 6. Act as a facilitator for students during the internal assigned rotations. 7. Perform support services needed by the Dental Hygiene Department faculty, including copying and collating of documents. 8. Prepare and sends patient referrals as needed. 9. Ensure all areas of the Dental Hygiene Clinic including, Prep Area, Dental Materials Lab, Radiology Clinic etc., are kept at optimum cleanliness and organization. 10. Maintain SDS Sheets on all dental supplies and chemical inventory utilized in the Dental Hygiene Department. 11. Evaluate and initiate requests for services, supplies, and equipment maintenance. 12. Facilitate the annual college inventory process. 13. Facilitate the property removal process. 14. Assist the Dental Hygiene Program Director and faculty in the planning and administration of the fiscal and operational activities of the Dental Hygiene Clinical area. 15. Analyze, recommend, and assist the Dental Hygiene Program Director in the resolution of Clinic business operational problems and patient complaints. 16. Attend yearly training seminars. QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform the essential duties and responsibilities listed above. The qualifications listed below are representative of the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. EDUCATION High school diploma or GED required. Associate’s degree in Applied Science preferred Current CPR Basic Life Support required Registered Dental Assistant required Certified Dental Assistant, having taken the National Board Dental Assisting Examination, preferred but not required Proof of immunizations records (within last 6 months) required EXPERIENCE 1 year current front office experience required. Dental assisting experience, chair-side assisting, and sterilization and preparation and dental software package experience preferred KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES 1. Excellent communication skills in dealing with the public and students. 2. Able to multi-task. 3. Flexibility with scheduling and duties.
