    "description_html": "<p>Reports to: Field Supervisor and/or Operations Manager</p><p>Department: Marine Operations</p><p>Status: Non-Exempt</p><p><br></p><p><u><strong>Description:</strong></u></p><p>The Tankerman serves as the person-in-charge of critical operations, with the responsibility of protecting the environment by ensuring the safe reliable transfer of dangerous liquid cargo. Is responsible for performing a variety of inspections from beginning to end of transfer. Must hold government-issued certification and Tankerman certification when working aboard liquid-carrying vessels. Includes able seamen and ordinary seamen.</p><p><br></p><p><u><strong>Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</strong></u></p><ul><li>Receive and confirm orders from dispatch, facility, boat captain and report any discrepancies to Gulfstar Dispatch Department immediately.</li><li>Travel to and from assigned facility, as directed by Gulfstar Dispatch Department.</li><li>Carries all equipment form vehicle to facility to ensure that all equipment necessary to complete the transfer will be close at hand.</li><li>Wears all protective clothing and equipment, including respirator and fresh air equipment that may be required to transfer product.</li><li>Inspects the barge prior to the cargo transfer operation, to ensure the vessel is mechanically sound and in accordance to US Coast Guard requirements.</li><li>Performs Job Safety Analysis (JSA) and verifies all barge documents are onboard prior to conducting cargo transfer operations.</li><li>Completes and signs the Declaration of Inspection (DOI) and follows all CFR requirements, as they relate to Tankering Operations.</li><li>Maintenance of machinery, including barge pump engines, pump valve packings, winch wires, and soft lines when necessary.</li><li>Connects cargo arm or hose and aligns the barge’s valves to send and receive cargo.</li><li>Reports irregularities of the vessel, and/ or facility prior to beginning the transfer.</li><li>Immediately stop transfer and call dispatch if irregularities occur.</li><li>For discharge operations, check engine and pump to ensure they are mechanically sound prior to beginning transfer.</li><li>Continually monitor and adjust cargo flow and/ or barge's mooring lines throughout transfer.</li><li>Upon dispatch approval, disconnects cargo arm or hose and completes required paperwork and log book once the transfer is complete.</li><li>Secures the barge's valves and openings and prepares the barge for sail.</li><li>Calls dispatch with job information prior to departing job site.</li><li>Ability to work an on-call rotation schedule which includes days/nights/weekends and holidays.</li><li>Required to be ready at a moment’s notice, while on rotation to be dispatched to a job and arrive on dock within two hours, some cases ASAP.</li><li>Attendance and participation at monthly safety meetings, opportunity for improvement and change management activities.</li></ul><p><u><strong>Success Factors:</strong></u></p><ul><li><strong>Self Control</strong> - Job requires maintaining composure, keeping emotions in check, controlling anger, and avoiding aggressive behavior, even in very difficult situations.</li><li><strong>Cooperation</strong> - Job requires being pleasant with others on the job and displaying a good-natured, cooperative attitude.</li><li><strong>Attention to Detail </strong>- Job requires being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks.</li><li><strong>Dependability</strong> - Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.</li><li><strong>Stress Tolerance</strong> - Job requires accepting criticism and dealing calmly and effectively with high stress situations.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><u><strong>Physical Demands</strong></u></p><ul><li><strong>Multilimbed Coordination </strong>- The ability to coordinate two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing.</li><li><strong>Walking</strong> - Walk one to four miles per job.</li><li><strong>Weight</strong> - Lift, grip, pull or hold up to 80 pounds to waist and carry up to 300 feet.</li><li><strong>Arm-Hand Steadiness </strong>- The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.</li></ul><p><u><strong>Working Conditions</strong></u></p><ul><li><strong>Environment - </strong>Work outside in environmental conditions which at times include extreme heat or extreme cold.
