    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Job Title                          </span>Street Maintenance III</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reports To</span>                  Street Operations Supervisor</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Positions Supervised   </span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">STREET MAINTENANCE III</span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">’s role within the big picture of the City’s overall success.</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>The Street Maintenance III position performs skilled and semi-skilled work in the construction, modification, and maintenance of municipal streets, rights-of-way, sidewalks, stormwater systems, and signage. This role involves operating heavy equipment and specialized vehicles, fabricating and installing street signs, setting up safe traffic control zones, and performing seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Education and Experience </span>– An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.</p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Education</span>          HS_GED</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Experience</span>       Two years of previous relevant work experience is required.</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Certifications</span>   Class A Commercial Driver's License within one year probation period</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Licensing                     </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Residency          </span>IL: Madison County, Jersey County, St. Clair County, Macoupin County, MO: St. Louis County, St. Charles County                                                                                                        </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">STREET MAINTENANCE III</span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"> functions</span> <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">include but are not limited to the following.</span></p>\n<p><br><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Sign Fabrication and Installation</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Use specialized computer software and equipment to design, cut, produce, and install street signs.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Traffic Control and Work Zone Safety</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Set up compliant traffic control zones using cones, barricades, signage, and arrow boards. Direct traffic safely using radios and stop/slow paddles.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Street Resurfacing and Pothole Repair</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operate patching trucks, hot boxes, paving machines, and asphalt rollers to repair potholes and resurface streets. Use cold patch when necessary.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Street Cleaning and Leaf Removal</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operate street sweepers and leaf vacuums to remove debris and leaves from roadways, improving appearance and preventing storm drain blockages.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Snow and Ice Removal</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Operate plow trucks, salt spreaders, and front-end loaders to clear streets and intersections during winter weather.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Sidewalk, ROW, and Guardrail Maintenance</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assist in repair and maintenance of sidewalks, guardrails, and rights-of-way to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Sign Shop and Barricade Management</span>:</p>\n<ul>\n<li>Maintain and update barricade inventory and ensure proper documentation of all traffic control devices issued and returned.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">The individual in this role is expected to contribute to the team's efforts by completing other related tasks as needed.</span></p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Success Framework. </span>The following list of knowledge, skills, and abilities have been identified by our team as building blocks towards efficiency and effectiveness in this role.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Knowledge of city street systems, signage standards, and maintenance practices.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of MUTCD regulations and safe work zone setup procedures.</li>\n<li>Knowledge of safety procedures for excavation, confined spaces, traffic control, and hazardous materials.</li>\n<li>Skill in using and maintaining specialized tools, vehicles, and equipment for street repair, sign creation, and seasonal operations.</li>\n<li>Skill in reading and interpreting work orders, plans, and safety instructions.</li>\n<li>Skill in using computers and software for GIS and sign production.</li>\n<li>Ability to operate heavy equipment and specialized vehicles safely and efficiently.</li>\n<li>Ability to establish and maintain safe and compliant work zones.</li>\n<li>Ability to work in varying weather conditions and respond to emergencies when needed.<br></li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Equipment and Tools</span> commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p>Backhoe, Hot Box, Patching Truck, Street Sweepers, Vacuum Trucks, Plow/Salt Trucks, Paving Machine, Asphalt Rollers, Bobcat, Mini Excavator, Front End Loader, Flexi Sign Software, CPR with AED.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Work Environment </span>or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>May regularly be exposed to uncomfortable temperatures, humidity, noise, chemicals/gases, contagious diseases, airborne particles/pathogens, and/or physical trauma.<br></li>\n<li>May be exposed to fumes or airborne particles.<br></li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">* Physical Abilities. </span>The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work requires the ability to sit, stand, walk for extended periods of time.</li>\n<li>Work requires the ability to complete repetitive wrist, hand, and/or fine motor movement.</li>\n<li>Work requires the ability to grasp, pull, push, and reach.</li>\n<li>Work requires the ability to climb and balance.</li>\n<li>Work requires the ability to talk, hear, listen, and comprehend.</li>\n<li>Work requires the ability to drive and/or operate mechanical equipment.</li>\n<li>Work requires visual acuity of 20 feet or more, visual acuity of 20 inches or less, three dimensional vision, precise hand/eye coordination, the ability to identify and distinguish colors.</li>\n<li>Must be able to lift more than 60<br></li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">*</span>The City of Alton offers reasonable accommodation in the hiring and employment process for individuals with disabilities.
