Description This position is part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA). The successful candidate will be offered a contingent tenured or tenure-track appointment in the Department of Medicine, with the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full Professor, which is in accordance with the University of Alberta Faculty Agreement , and offers a comprehensive benefits package . Remuneration for this position is based on the Academic Medicine & Health Services Program (AMHSP). Salary will be commensurate with education and experience. Location - This role is in-person at North Campus Edmonton. The University of Alberta, Faculty of Medicine & Dentistry, Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases in partnership with Alberta Health Services, invites applications for a Transplant Infectious Diseases Clinician Researcher to be based at the University of Alberta Hospital. Located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, the Faculty has been internationally recognized as among the world’s top 50 medical schools and as one of Canada’s premier health-education institutions. The University is currently home to more than 38,000 students with more than 15,000 faculty and staff. The Division of Infectious Diseases has over 30 Faculty members and provides clinical services to all acute care facilities in Edmonton, and consultative services to Northern Alberta as well as western NWT and parts of BC. There are established specialty programs in HIV/AIDS, Transplant Infectious Diseases, Viral Hepatitis, Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT), Infection Prevention and Control and Antimicrobial Stewardship as well as close relationships with Provincial and regional microbiology laboratories, and regional Public Health. The Division boasts one of the longest running and most highly regarded Canadian postgraduate training programs in Infectious Diseases. It has a long history of conducting clinical trials with dedicated Clinical Trial Unit infrastructure, and members of the Division are actively engaged across clinical, translational and basic science research. The University of Alberta Hospital has the second largest transplant program in Canada performing heart, lung, liver, kidney, autologous stem cell and multivisceral transplantation as well as providing pre and post stem cell transplant care to those who have received allogeneic HSCT in Calgary. The division of infectious diseases provides consultation to those with solid organ transplants as well as those at the Cross Cancer Institute with solid organ tumors on active treatment and those with hematologic malignancy. Responsibilities Key accountabilities of the Academic Transplant Infectious Diseases physical will include, but will not be limited to clinical practice of transplant Infectious Diseases, teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate medical trainees, including Infectious Diseases subspecialty residents and transplant fellows, and the development of an internationally recognized research program. Clinical practice (minimum 30% effort) may include, but not be limited to, inpatient transplant ID consultation, ambulatory care and equitable participation in ID after hours call. Individual areas of clinical interest may be incorporated into the role. The successful applicant will have a major research focus, dedicating at least 40% of their time to research in Infectious Diseases with alignment to the existing strengths of the Division (https://www.ualberta.ca/department-of-medicine/divisions/infectious diseases/research.html) and Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. The following are regarded as an asset, but not required, for those with a clinical research focus: training/experience in Clinical Trials methodology, Health Economics, or Health Services Research. Qualifications The successful candidate will be an MD (or equivalent) with certification in Infectious Diseases with the Royal College of Physicians & Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent), be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA) and have additional training in clinical transplant infectious diseases. Additional training in clinical or bench research with MSc of PhD or record of research productivity is also required.
