The Iñupiaq way of life is woven into our curriculum, programs, activities, and daily interactions within Ilisagvik College and our community partners. </span></em></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Lato, sans-serif; font-weight: bold\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">SUMMARY OF POSITION:</span></span></p>\n<p>The Instructor/Assistant Professor of Biology/Chemistry develops and teaches general science courses, science courses for students interested in obtaining a science degree and/or entering the workforce as a science technician or similar [emphasizing high latitude implications] within the Academic Division, which may include General Biology, General Chemistry, Geoscience, and/or Physics. Additionally, the role collaborates with external partners and research scientists from other institutions on various projects.<br><br></p>\n<p><span><br></span></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Prepares and maintains updated instructional materials, course outlines, and curriculum.<br></li>\n<li>Maintains office hours, as required.<br></li>\n<li>Participates in the development of and contributes to the quality of post-secondary curriculum in the area of study.<br></li>\n<li>Serves as student academic advisor.<br></li>\n<li>Evaluates student performance and submits appropriate grades and reports.<br></li>\n<li>Participates in professional development, as appropriate.<br></li>\n<li>Completes reports and presentations, and attends meetings and special events, as required.<br></li>\n<li>Monitors the degree and certificate programs within the Program(s) and makes timely changes, as appropriate.<br></li>\n<li>Actively participates in College and community service including serving on community and task forces, participating in College activities, curriculum planning, professional development, and assisting in the budgeting of assigned programs.                                                   </li>\n<li>Manages the laboratory workload consistent with a science faculty position, including maintaining, preparing, and dispensing solutions and chemical materials (i.e., reagents, chemicals, acids, bases, buffers, stains, culture media, culture plates).</li>\n<li>Monitors collection and disposal of pathogenic waste, hazardous waste, toxic materials, and chemicals according to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard.<br></li>\n<li>Maintains and updates the Materials Safety Data (MSD) forms.<br></li>\n<li>In a time-critical manner, attend to cultures by propagations of viable pathogenic and nonpathogenic stock cultures of bacteria, viruses, and fungi.<br></li>\n<li>Maintains and cleans laboratory space (floors, surface areas) and equipment (i.e., glassware, autoclaves, incubators, refrigerators) on a daily/weekly/monthly basis<br></li>\n<li>Inventories, submit requisitions, restocks, and organizes supplies and equipment each semester.<br></li>\n<li>Complies with College policies, procedures and administrative directives, as well as state, federal, and local laws, regulations, and ordinances.<br></li>\n<li>Performs other related duties as required.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES</span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Demonstrated teaching experience in a post-secondary environment.<br></li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience in curriculum development.<br></li>\n<li>Demonstrated experience with distance delivery of courses and curriculum.<br></li>\n<li>Good oral and written communication skills.<br></li>\n<li>Ability to travel periodically.</li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">Excellent interpersonal communication and relationship building skills.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-family: 'Segoe UI',sans-serif\">Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: post-secondary educational systems, North Slope Borough [NSB] institutions and organizations;
