Overview The Salvation Army’s Kroc Community Center is hiring a Program Coordinator for Seniors and offers the following benefit package to part-time employees: Generous paid time off every year that includes: holidays, vacation time and sick time Employer funded Pension Plan (company contributions begin after 1 year of employment and consistently works 20+ hours/week) Eligibility for supplemental insurance plans including: Voluntary Term Life & AD&D benefits, AFLAC Insurance Most importantly – a job with a good purpose! Location : Ray & Joan Kroc Community Center, 650 Dudley Street, Dorchester, MA 02125 Hours/week: 20 Hours per week Exemption: Non-exempt Pay Range : $18 - $21 per hour *starting pay varies depending on experience and qualifications* FUNCTION Plans, organizes, and implements recreation programs for senior citizens such as social-recreation activities, arts and crafts, educational programs, and trips/excursions. Directs, coordinates, and monitors the work of volunteers. Duties and Responsibilities Develops, organizes, implements and evaluates the programs and services which are offered for the senior program Determine program needs through target group assessment Plan and coordinate special events to enhance the quality of life for senior participants. Supervise volunteers to assist with the needs of the senior program. Drive passenger vans to and from various senior center activities and programs. Plans and coordinates special senior events such as Thanksgiving Luncheon, field trips, and social activities. Organize and provide quality services in a cost-effective manner Work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends Obtain first aid/CPR certificate within 6 months after hire date Perform other duties within the scope of the position QUALIFICATIONS Education Requirements Two years of college, business school, or specialized education focused on seniors. Experience can substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. Preferred Work Experience Two years’ experience as a recreation leader or related experience in a public or private recreation program involving the planning, scheduling, implementation and supervision of recreation programs for senior citizens; or substituting successful completion of college level course work in recreation, physical education, gerontology, or a related field for the experience; or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Other Qualifications Must understand Senior citizen programming-philosophies, principles and practices. Must have an understanding of Community resources available for older adults. Must be able to plan and organize recreation programs for older adults. Must be able to work well with older adults. Communicate and express ideas effectively, both verbally and written. Must have a valid driver’s license All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or protected veteran status and will not be discriminated against on the basis of disability.
