Family Supports Supervisor (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Location: #200 12308 111 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta
Closing Date: Until Suitable Candidate is Found
Position Status: Full Time (40 hrs per week), Temporary Maternity Leave Coverage, (one year contract, with possibility of extension)
The Otipemisiwak Métis Government is recruiting for a Family Supports Supervisor to oversee the day-to-day coordination and delivery of Métis-specific early learning supports and programs for children, families, and caregivers across Alberta. Reporting to the Manager of Family Supports - Early Learning Programs, the Family Supports Supervisor will guide the Family Supports team in designing, implementing, and evaluating safe, meaningful, and culturally grounded programs and resources that address the unique developmental, social, and emotional needs of Métis early learners. These programs and resources include, but not limited to, Accessibility Programs, Seasonal Support Programs (Back to School, Christmas), and Infant/Caregiver Programs. The Family Supports Supervisor will provide hands-on leadership to program coordinators and team members, ensuring that initiatives are delivered effectively and in response to the evolving needs of families. This role requires an open-minded, collaborative team player who can build strong relationships with staff, caregivers, and community partners, while seeking innovative approaches to expand access and impact of early learning supports for Métis families.
Key Responsibilities
Support program design to ensure activities are culturally grounded, inclusive, and aligned with Métis identity and values.
Maintain program timelines, milestones, and reporting systems to track progress and outcomes.
Identify opportunities to improve programming and suggest innovative approaches.
Mentor and coach program coordinators and staff, providing one-ones, guidance, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
Assist with hiring, onboarding, and performance management of team members.
Foster a collaborative, supportive, and accountable team culture.
Build and maintain relationships with Métis families, communities, and partners.
Support the Manager of Family Supports in representing programs at community events, conferences, and gatherings.
Assist in proposal writing, reporting, and knowledge sharing with community and funding partners.
Collaborate with the CFS Communications team on program-specific communications plans.
Assist in managing budgets, logistics, and planning for family supports initiatives.
Ensure programs comply with safety, accessibility, and quality standards.
Provide updates, reports, and recommendations to the Manager of Family Supports.
Participate in and support the overall strategic direction of the Children and Family Services department and Otipemisiwak Métis Government.

Exceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to produce professional documents, reports, and presentations.
Experience planning and implementing events and community engagements.
Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills.
Strong organization and time management skills, with the ability to manage deadlines.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems.
A proven track record of building collaborative partnerships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including government, industry, service providers, and community.
Resourceful, proactive, and results driven.
Receptive to constructive feedback, committed to continuous improvement, and aligns personal development with overarching team objectives.
Culturally sensitive and compassionate.
Knowledge of Métis history, culture, and issues affecting Métis people. An in-depth understanding of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government is an asset.
Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Early Learning, Human or Social Services, or related field is preferred; however, equivalent experiences will be considered.
Two (2) to three (3) years’ experience in a similar role is an asset.
Two (2) years’ of leadership experience and experience supervising a team of direct reports is required.
Indigenous Awareness Training is an asset.
Other Requirements
Position is based in Edmonton; in-office presence is required.
Ability to work a regular schedule of Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM.
Must be willing to travel within Alberta and work irregular hours, on occasion, to meet program needs
Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
Acceptable attainment and annual maintenance of a Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Check and an Intervention Record Check is required
