RIHousing – Family Self-Sufficiency Coordinator
Salary - $51,896.00 - $62,276.00
Please note: This pay range represents the base annual full-time salary for all positions within this job grade. The actual salary offered will depend on factors such as experience and other job‑ related qualifications.
What it’s all about:
We are seeking a dynamic professional to serve as a Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Coordinator in our Leased Housing Department. This position is responsible for the cost-effective administration of the FSS program, including managing an active caseload, recruiting participants, coordinating services, maintaining accurate documentation, and ensuring compliance with HUD and RIHousing requirements. The Coordinator will enter and maintain data in YARDI and HUD systems.
This is a hybrid position based in Providence, Rhode Island, where you will be an integral part of our Leased Housing team. The role is designed for face-to-face collaboration and direct involvement in our office environment.
What you’ll do daily:
The FSS Coordinator supports families participating in the Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCVP) within RIHousing’s jurisdiction. You will collaborate with the HCV, Project-Based Voucher (PBV), and Intake teams to identify, recruit, and enroll eligible participants.
Key responsibilities include:
Processing FSS applications and preparing participants for enrollment by explaining program regulations and expectations. Meeting with new participants to complete the Contract of Participation, send welcome materials, and establish Individual Training and Services Plans (ITSPs) with realistic and achievable goals. Providing ongoing coaching and guidance related to financial literacy, education, employment, and other self-sufficiency goals over the five-year contract term. Documenting all participant activities and services provided in client files. Working with HCV and PBV teams to ensure accurate income reporting and to establish and maintain FSS escrow accounts. Verifying escrow calculations, addressing corrections promptly, and coordinating with the finance team for escrow disbursements. Ensuring accurate and timely data entry in YARDI and submission to HUD’s PIC system, including processing enrollments, updates, and exits. Escalating any discrepancies in income, household composition, or escrow data to the appropriate teams. Attending Program Coordinating Committee meetings to build partnerships and strengthen referral resources. Recruiting participants through targeted outreach, events, and briefings, and identifying current participants to share success stories for promotional materials. Obtaining certification as a Resident Service Coordinator and attending training in coaching and case management. Performing special assignments, serving on task forces, and making presentations about the FSS program as needed. What you’ll bring to the team:
Builds strong partnerships with public housing authorities, community organizations, and other service providers to enhance referral networks and participant support. Maintains complete and accurate participant documentation, forms, and reports in compliance with program requirements. Demonstrates excellent organizational and data management skills to ensure accuracy and timeliness in all reporting and recordkeeping. What success looks like in this position:
Minimum three years of experience in social services, particularly family counseling with "at-risk" populations Working knowledge of the HCVP program, as well as federal and state entitlement programs Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong organizational, computer, and problem-solving skills Flexibility to deal with scheduling changes; valid driver's license and properly insured personal vehicle Associate’s degree in psychology, social work, or related field, Bachelor’s preferred; or equivalent work experience Bilingual ability required (particularly Spanish or Portuguese) Not sure if you meet all the qualifications?
