Pay Range USD $47,000.00 - USD $50,000.00 /Yr. Overview This position incorporates all aspects of the athletic training profession within the parameters of the New York State Licensure and both the Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics set forth by the National Athletic Trainers Association. The Assistant Athletic Trainer will work with the Head Athletic Trainer to provide coverage for 20 intercollegiate teams. General duties include but are not limited to, prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries, and ensuring compliance with all NCAA, and HIPPA laws of all student athletes. This is a ten month, onsite renewable position beginning August 1, 2025. General Purpose: Athletic Trainer in collegiate sports, that cares, treats, develops injury prevention programs, and rehabilitates student athletes in a way that will promote and demonstrate the mission and goals of Clarkson University Responsibilities • Provide necessary practice and game coverage for athletic teams. This will require travel to numerous away venues and working on weekends and nights. Flexible work hours. • Onsite care and management of injuries and illnesses including: prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation both in and out of season.• Electronic documentation of patient encounters. File and maintain all necessary reports associated with athletic injuries and/or incidents, and rehabilitation. • Communicate with physicians and coaching staff regarding the injury status of athletes. • Provide appropriate physician referral assistance for student athletes in need of additional care both in and out of season in a timely mannero (i.e. Physical Therapists/Emergency Medicine/Orthopedics, etc.)• Review medical and insurance forms to determine whether or not each student athlete meets the necessary criteria for participation. Establish an emergency list for each team with insurance information and important medical history of student athletes.• Coordinate and implement injury prevention programs and customized preventative strategies and programs to each patient. Provide appropriate treatments for student athletes in need. Provide appropriate pre and post practice/game care.• Ability to relate effectively to student athletes, coaches and other health care professionals, and the University community.• Minimize risk of injury through awareness, education and prevention strategies. Create a safe playing environment by monitoring and controlling environmental risks.• Provide healthcare information and advise and counsel athletes, parents and coaches on matters pertaining to the physical, psychological and emotional health and well-being of the competitive athlete• Provide accommodation recommendations, related to sport, for student athletes with restrictions or limitations. • Provide visiting teams with adequate supplies and training room assistance.• Assist with overseeing training rooms to assure proper maintenance, cleaning, and supplies. Assist the Head Trainer by procuring and monitoring athletic supplies and equipment.• Assist the Head Trainer in the administration of Clarkson’s Athletic Insurance Policy, Athletic Training Policy and Procedures, and Emergency Action Plans • Have ability to move supplies (water, ice, etc.) to game/practice venues. This includes lifting approx 50lbs.• All other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer Qualifications Education:Minimal Qualifications: Master’s Degree Experience:Minimal Experience: 1-3 years of collegiate athletic training experience. Demonstrated commitment to furthering the goals and objectives of both the University and Athletics Department. Ability to successfully communicate with student-athletes and coaching staff. Understanding of the role of the student-athlete in a competitive academic/athletic environment and demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a variety of constituency groups. Knowledge of NCAA Division I and III rules and regulations. Preferred Experience: 2-4 years of collegiate athletic training. Certifications/Licenses: Must be BOC Certified and possess state athletic training licensure, certification or registration. Current certification in CPR and First Aid required. Certified to work in the USA and New York State. Essential Skills • Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge of a large range of medical problems. Assessment, evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be required.• Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.• Attention to Detail: Athletic trainers should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situations when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families. • Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with little or no supervision.
