Position Overview The Medical Services Director is responsible for clinical oversight of psychiatric services, supervision of medical staff, support of integrated mental health/SUD treatment models, and ensuring adherence to OhioMHAS, Ohio Board of Medicine, and Ohio Board of Nursing standards. This leadership role ensures the consistent delivery of high-quality, trauma-informed, client-centered psychiatric and medication services across all PGCS programs. Key Responsibilities Psychiatric & Medication-Management Oversight Provide clinical leadership and oversight for all medical and psychiatric services, including diagnostic evaluations, ongoing psychiatric care, and medication management. Ensure evidence-based prescribing practices, appropriate medication monitoring, and adherence to Ohio Board of Medicine standards. Support Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) workflows, including coordination with prescribers, nursing staff, and clinical teams. Oversee psychiatric crisis intervention protocols and collaborate with crisis teams when needed. Review and approve psychiatric policies, clinical guidelines, and prescribing protocols. Clinical Leadership & Supervision Provide clinical supervision and direction to medical staff including PMHNPs, physicians, LPNs, RNs, and medical assistants. Participate in case staffing, interdisciplinary treatment meetings, and medical review processes. Ensure consistent, high-quality clinical decision-making aligned with client needs and organizational goals. Mentor medical providers in trauma-informed care, co-occurring disorder treatment, and recovery-oriented practices. Collaboration & Integrated Care Partner with Clinical Managers, Program Directors, and therapists to ensure seamless integration of psychiatric and therapeutic services. Serve as a medical liaison to community partners, hospitals, referring agencies, and pharmacies. Coordinate with re-entry, MAT, and community-based programs to ensure continuity of psychiatric and medical care. Support transitions of care, including hospital discharges, higher levels of care, and step-down planning. Quality Assurance, Compliance & Risk Management Ensure compliance with OhioMHAS standards, Ohio Board of Medicine regulations, DEA requirements, HIPAA, and agency policies. Oversee internal audits for medication management, documentation accuracy, and prescribing practices. Approve and monitor policies related to controlled substances, medication inventory, storage, and safety protocols. Participate in incident review, clinical risk assessment, and performance improvement initiatives. Ensure all medical documentation (evaluations, notes, orders) is completed accurately and within required timelines. Program Development & Leadership Lead ongoing improvement of psychiatric, MAT, and medical service lines. Support strategic planning, program expansion, and implementation of new service models. Identify opportunities for enhanced workflows, improved access to psychiatric services, and stronger client outcomes. Collaborate with leadership on staffing needs, recruitment, and training of medical personnel. Client Care & Engagement Provide high-level consultation on complex clinical cases, medication concerns, and diagnostic considerations. Ensure responsive, client-centered medical care with an emphasis on safety, dignity, and cultural humility. Promote a therapeutic environment supporting clients across the lifespan, including pediatric, adolescent, and adult populations. Education & Licensure MD, DO, or PMHNP with appropriate prescriptive authority. Active, unrestricted license in the State of Ohio. DEA registration required; DATA 2000/MOUD certification strongly preferred (if applicable). Board certification in Psychiatry or Psychiatric-Mental Health (preferred). Skills & Competencies Strong diagnostic and medication-management expertise across the lifespan. Ability to supervise and support multidisciplinary medical teams. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Knowledge of OhioMHAS, Medicaid, and behavioral health regulatory requirements. Commitment to culturally competent, trauma-informed, recovery-oriented practice. QUALIFICATIONS: MD, DO, or MBBS Active, unrestricted professional license in the State of Ohio. DEA registration required. Strong diagnostic and medication-management expertise across the lifespan. Ability to supervise and support multidisciplinary medical teams. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Knowledge of OhioMHAS, Medicaid, HIPAA, DEA, and behavioral health regulatory requirements. Experience supporting psychiatric services, medication management, and integrated mental health/SUD treatment models.
