We are looking to add new talent to our growing team! We are currently seeking a Staff Environmental Scientist or Geologist 2 to work in a technical support role with highly skilled professionals on diverse project teams in a dynamic environment. This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing group and company and get involved in a variety of projects for a diverse range of clients. This is a full-time position located in our Midlothian, VA office. In this role, the selected candidate will support environmental and geotechnical projects through a combination of field assignments and office-based technical work. Field responsibilities will include environmental sampling, geologic logging and documentation, observation of soil boring and groundwater monitoring well installation activities, and support for site characterization programs. Office responsibilities will include organizing and evaluating field data, supporting technical interpretations, and preparing technical documentation and report sections under the direction of senior staff. This role is a strong opportunity for a developing professional to build practical consulting experience while contributing to high-quality project delivery and safe field execution. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES In this position, you will: Independently conduct field investigations and assessments of soil, soil vapor, groundwater, surface water, etc., using approved industry standard procedures. Use the results of field investigations such as subsurface explorations, monitoring well construction, field sampling and other work to support site characterization. Conduct basic construction observation, including quality control documentation and field testing tasks. Support field data organization, reduction, and synthesis. Prepare and maintain accurate and detailed documentation of activities both in the field and during data evaluation. Apply academic training and use computer software to perform calculations and evaluation of available site data. Draft technical sections of project communications and reports. Assist with the development of technical scopes of work and cost estimating for proposal efforts on small- to medium-sized tasks or project opportunities. Perform all work in accordance with company and client Health Safety protocols. Demonstrate our foundational safety behaviors. Support geologic site characterization activities through geologic logging, documentation, and observation of soil boring and groundwater monitoring well installation activities. Assist project teams with the interpretation, evaluation, and summarization of environmental and geologic data to support project decision-making. SKILLS/EXPERIENCE Minimum Skills and Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Geology/Environmental Science or related field. 2+ years of related experience. Proficient technical writing, verbal communication, reasoning, and time-management skills. Able to work independently or with minimal direction in performing tasks and assignments under the direction of senior staff. Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership. Experience with Microsoft Office 365 software. Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours. Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays up to 50% of the time. Preferred Skills: Master’s degree in Geology/Environmental Science or related field. OSHA 40-Hour HAZWOPER training.
