Description
Our Mission
Beverly’s PGH exists to celebrate and strengthen families. Through the Three B’s – Birthdays, Babies, and Basics – the organization serves more than 35,000 children and families annually across Southwestern PA. Founded in 2012, Beverly’s PGH has grown dramatically over the past fourteen years and now operates with a multimillion-dollar budget and a team of 17 employees.
Who We’re Looking For
Beverly's PGH is seeking passionate and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Directors as we continue to grow our impact. Ideal candidates are natural connectors and decision-makers — individuals who enjoy bringing people together, hold influence within their organization or community, and are eager to use that influence to open doors, build partnerships, and advance the mission. Strong candidates communicate well, think strategically, and are energized by collaboration and community impact.
Are willing to contribute their time, skills, and experience to help guide and strengthen the organization.
Bring strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Have a track record of leadership in community, professional, or nonprofit settings (prior board service preferred).
Have influence within their company and/or community networks and are eager to use that influence to build relationships, open doors, drive partnership and financial contributions, and create meaningful connections that support our mission.
Demonstrate commitment to equity, inclusion, and representation.
Exhibit strategic thinking, creativity, and openness to diverse perspectives.
While not required, Beverly’s PGH would particularly benefit from board members who bring insight, access, or experience in areas such as law, human resources, major gifts fundraising, leadership coaching, video and digital marketing, government relations, large-scale event planning, corporate partnerships, and retail operations or purchasing. These perspectives strengthen our work, but the most essential qualification is a willingness to actively engage, connect, and use influence in service of the mission.
Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership & Governance: Collaborate with the Executive Director and fellow board members to set strategic priorities and measure organizational outcomes; review and approve the annual budget; provide oversight of risk management, compliance, and long-term sustainability.
Fundraising & Resource Development: Leverage personal and professional networks to support Beverly’s PGH through event participation, sponsorships, introductions, and stewardship of potential partners; participate in fundraising initiatives; personally contribute a minimum annual gift of $1,000 and encourage additional giving.
Community Ambassadorship: Serve as a visible and vocal advocate; champion Beverly’s PGH’s work around birthdays, babies, and basics; engage corporate, government, and community leaders to strengthen partnerships.
Board Engagement & Collaboration: Participate actively in board and committee meetings; support staff in advancing the strategic plan; help cultivate future board leadership and promote diversity in board recruitment.
Expectations
Attend 6 board meetings annually (3 in-person, 3 virtual).
Serve on at least one board committee (meets every other month, virtually).
Volunteer at one Beverly’s PGH programming event per year.
Participate in annual fundraising campaigns and promote/attend signature events.
Commit to a minimum personal contribution of $1,000 annually, with additional efforts to secure external support.
Leverage your influence: use your networks to open doors for partnerships, sponsorships, donations, and introductions to funders and stakeholders.
Embrace a culture of accountability: come prepared, follow through on commitments, and support the collective success of the board.
Term of Service
Length: Two years (renewable once for a maximum of four consecutive years).
Cycle: July 1, 2026 – June 30, 2027.
