As the Active Transportation Specialist, you will lead the advancement of safe, connected, and sustainable transportation across Strathcona County. In this highly collaborative role, you’ll drive strategic initiatives that support walking, cycling, and other active modes of travel - bringing together internal teams, community partners, and Council to deliver impactful solutions.</p><p>Through planning, education, and evaluation, you’ll play a key role in fostering a culture of safe active transportation while representing the County in public forums and helping create a more connected, healthy, and vibrant community.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p><ul><li>Lead the development and implementation of Active Transportation and traffic safety strategies aligned with County priorities &nbsp;</li><li>Develop, update, and manage plans, policies, and bylaws in collaboration with internal and external partners</li><li>Identify, pursue, and administer grant funding from provincial, federal, and private sources</li><li>Monitor best practices and research to inform planning and policy updates</li><li>Support budget planning and tracking to align with program objectives</li><li>Ensure initiatives align with County traffic safety policies and approved plans</li><li>Respond to public inquiries and provide expert advice on Active Transportation</li><li>Manage consultation and engagement projects, including RFP development and oversight</li><li>Oversee implementation of programs, projects, and partnerships supporting Active Transportation</li><li>Review designs, reports, and infrastructure plans for safety, accessibility, and policy compliance; conduct site visits and inspections</li><li>Maintain data, monitor performance, and evaluate program effectiveness to support continuous improvement and strategic planning</li><li>Build and maintain strong relationships with community groups, government agencies, and key stakeholders, collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, including internal teams, community groups, and government agencies</li><li>Lead public education and engagement efforts to increase awareness and encourage safe active transportation behaviours</li><li>Research emerging trends and best practices in active transportation and apply them to local initiatives</li></ul><p><br><strong>Qualifications and Skills:</strong></p><ul><li>Post-secondary degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field with five (5) years of relevant experience, or a diploma in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, or a related field with seven (7) years of related experience.
