Position Summary City of Hope is seeking a dynamic, strategic, and results-oriented Director of Nursing (DON), overseeing several outpatient infusion units. The DON is responsible for all aspects pertaining to operational activities and program management within a designated grouping of clinics or units on a 7-day/week, 24-hour basis in collaboration with the Nursing Executive Director. This leader will oversee a large multidisciplinary team and drive excellence in patient-centered care delivery, operational efficiency, quality outcomes, employee engagement, and patient satisfaction. The DON will be responsible for developing and implementing strategies that improve patient access, reduce wait times, optimize resource utilization, enhance care coordination, and support a seamless patient experience. This role requires a highly collaborative leader with strong analytical capabilities, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of leading process improvement initiatives within complex healthcare environments. As a successful candidate, you will: Operational Leadership Provide strategic and operational oversight for Infusion Services, Day Hospital, and Transfusion Coordination teams. Lead a team of nursing leaders, clinical staff, and support personnel while fostering accountability, engagement, and professional growth. Establish clear performance expectations and effectively delegate responsibilities to nursing managers and frontline leaders. Ensure efficient patient flow, staffing optimization, and resource allocation across all service areas. Develop operational plans that align with organizational goals, growth initiatives, and patient care priorities. Process Improvement & Patient Experience Lead initiatives to improve operational efficiency and patient throughput. Develop and implement strategies to reduce patient wait times and treatment delays. Identify opportunities to streamline workflows and eliminate operational barriers. Champion continuous improvement methodologies and evidence-based practice initiatives. Partner with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient access, coordination of care, and overall patient satisfaction. Lead task forces and workgroups focused on enhancing patient experience and operational performance. Quality, Safety & Clinical Excellence Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards. Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, nursing leaders, and operational partners to optimize clinical protocols and workflows. Participate in the development, review, and standardization of clinical protocols, treatment pathways, order sets, and operational procedures. Monitor quality indicators and implement corrective action plans as needed. Analytics & Performance Management Utilize data analytics to drive decision-making and operational improvements. Monitor and evaluate key performance indicators including: Patient wait times Treatment chair utilization Add-on patient volumes Scheduling efficiency Throughput metrics Coordination of care outcomes Employee engagement metrics Patient satisfaction scores Develop dashboards, reports, and performance improvement plans to achieve operational goals. Present findings and recommendations to senior leadership and key stakeholders. Collaboration & Communication Build strong relationships with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, operational leaders, and support departments. Serve as a key liaison between clinical and operational teams. Facilitate effective communication across departments to ensure alignment and accountability. Lead change management initiatives and promote stakeholder engagement during process redesign efforts. Leadership & Team Development Mentor, coach, and develop nursing leaders and frontline staff.
