AIM Independent Living Center is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities and strengthening communities through advocacy, education, support services, and inclusive programming. Our internship program is designed to provide students with meaningful, hands-on experience while supporting AIM’s mission-driven work across the region. Internship Overview AIM is seeking four Summer Interns for a paid internship opportunity focused on professional development, community engagement, and workforce readiness. Interns will gain valuable real-world experience while working alongside experienced professionals in a collaborative nonprofit environment. This internship is intended for local students who are passionate about learning, community impact, and exploring careers in nonprofit and human services fields. Eligibility Requirements Candidates must: Reside in Steuben, Chemung, or Schuyler County Be entering their senior year of high school, or be a recent high school graduate attending their freshman year of college in Fall 2026 Possess valid documentation for employment Have reliable transportation Internship Tracks Interns may be placed within one of the following departments based on interest and organizational needs: Nonprofit Administration Information Technology (IT) Facilities Programming Weekly Schedule Part-time:10–20 hours per week Summer intensive format:8–10 weeks Key Responsibilities Responsibilities will vary by department assignment but may include: Assisting with daily departmental operations and projects Participating in interdisciplinary teamwork Supporting programming, events, or administrative activities Practicing professional communication with staff and community members Learning disability etiquette and inclusive workplace practices Applying ethical standards in nonprofit and human services settings Understanding community resources and support systems Learning Objectives By the completion of the internship, interns will be able to: Demonstrate professional communication skills Understand disability etiquette and inclusion practices Apply ethical standards in human services environments Identify and navigate community resource systems Participate effectively in collaborative team settings Supervisor Support Interns will receive: Structured training Professional mentorship Performance evaluations Documentation and workflow guidance Crisis escalation support when necessary Evaluation System Intern performance will be evaluated in the following areas: Professionalism Communication Reliability Ethical conduct Initiative Documentation skills Client interaction Teamwork Internship Benefits Interns who successfully complete the program will receive: A comprehensive performance evaluation A professional letter of recommendation A $500 scholarship for educational or career-related supplies Application Process Candidates must apply through the AIM career page on the agency website.
