Description

In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown. To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of: Truck Driver- Fuel Tanker The Fuel Tanker Driver is responsible for the safe transport of diesel, gasoline, and other petroleum products between Oko Barge Landing and the Oko Mine site, as well as internal fuel transfers within the barge landing facility. Fuel transport is the highest-risk trucking operation on site — one spill can shut down operations, trigger an environmental incident, and put lives at risk. This driver must be disciplined, safety-obsessed, and fully trained in hazardous materials handling. No shortcuts, no exceptions. Every load requires completed fuel forms, grounding cables connected, spill kits on board, and strict compliance with no-smoking zones. Key Responsibilities Safely operate fuel tanker trucks for the transport of diesel, gasoline, and other petroleum products between Oko Barge Landing and Oko Mine site. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections specific to tanker operations — check tank valves, hoses, seals, grounding cables, vents, emergency shutoffs, and fire suppression equipment in addition to standard vehicle checks. Complete all fuel documentation before every load — fuel transfer forms, waybills, dipstick readings (before and after), and delivery receipts. No fuel moves without paperwork. Connect grounding/bonding cables before every loading and unloading operation. Verify static grounding is secure before opening any valves. Maintain and verify spill kits are fully stocked and accessible on the tanker at all times — absorbent pads, booms, containment bags, and cleanup tools. Enforce the 50-metre no-smoking zone around the tanker during all loading, unloading, and transit stops. No exceptions for anyone. Coordinate with the fuel team and General Helpers at the barge landing for fuel receipt from barges (Rubis, Japarts deliveries) and dispensing operations. Monitor fuel levels during transport — watch for leaks, unusual sounds, or pressure changes. Stop immediately and report any anomaly. Follow designated fuel transport routes only. No deviation without authorization from the Logistics Supervisor. Assist with fuel farm operations at the barge landing when not on transport runs — support dispensing, tank inspections, and fuel inventory reconciliation. Respond to fuel spill emergencies following the site spill response plan — contain, report, and assist with cleanup. Participate in daily toolbox talks with specific focus on fuel handling safety. Comply with all HSE policies. Maintain the tanker truck in clean, safe operating condition. Report all mechanical issues immediately. Qualifications/Skills and Experience Minimum 3 years of experience operating tanker trucks for fuel or hazardous liquid transport. Valid Guyana driver’s license with appropriate class for heavy vehicles / tankers. Strong knowledge of fuel handling safety protocols — static grounding, vapor management, emergency shutoff procedures, and spill containment. Experience with fuel transfer documentation — waybills, dipstick readings, and delivery receipts. Understanding of fire safety specific to fuel transport — extinguisher types, ignition sources, no-smoking enforcement. Ability to perform tanker-specific pre-trip inspections (valves, seals, hoses, vents, emergency equipment). Clean driving record with no major incidents involving hazardous materials. Good communication skills for coordination by radio with dispatch and fuel teams. Physically fit for the demands of the role including hose handling and outdoor work in tropical conditions. Hazardous materials transport certification or formal HAZMAT training. Experience with bulk fuel receiving from barges or marine vessels. Experience working in Guyana’s interior mining operations. Knowledge of environmental spill response and EPA reporting requirements. Basic mechanical knowledge for field troubleshooting. Defensive driving certification. First Aid / CPR certification. Working Conditions Remote site location accessible primarily by river. Outdoor work in tropical climate with exposure to sun, rain, dust, and rough road conditions. 14 days on / 7 days off rotation. Campground accommodation provided on site. Haul road between barge landing and mine site includes steep grades, river crossings, and unpaved sections requiring constant vigilance. Must be available for extended hours during critical operations (barge arrivals, urgent deliveries). Constant exposure to fuel vapors requiring strict safety discipline at all times. Zero tolerance for safety violations — fuel transport infractions are grounds for immediate removal from site. Compensation Package Permanent, full-time role Competitive Salary Competitive benefits, bonus and group insurances.
