The feedback has directly contributed to Newmedica being listed among the UK’s top <br>50 Best Workplaces™ for 2025.</p>\n<p><br>Role overview</p>\n<p>We are looking for a new Ophthalmic Nurse to join our Shrewsbury site. This will be 19 hours over 2 days <br>per week including some weekend work. This is a fixed term contract for one year.  </p>\n<p><br>Our Ophthalmic Nurses ensure a safe and efficient in our services, supporting outpatients through <br>their clinical and theatre journeys. </p>\n<p><br>You’ll manage the pre-operative patient process by performing a range of clinical assessments and <br>getting the patients ready for surgery. The thought of eye surgery can be a daunting prospect for <br>patients to deal with, particularly just before going into theatre, so our Ophthalmic Nurses need to <br>be empathetic and friendly and able to put patients at ease and help them feel comfortable whist <br>they are being prepared.</p>\n<p><br>You’ll care for our post operative patients by helping them relax whilst you explain the next steps <br>and medication details, clearly explaining what they can expect and what any possible side effects <br>can be. </p>\n<p><br>Our services are busy, we can typically see 18-22 patients a day in our high-volume cataract surgery <br>provision, so you’ll thrive working in an efficient and fast paced environment. </p>\n<p><br>You can also be supporting the consultant in outpatient clinics, undertaking diagnostic testing as <br>required. You’ll be maintaining accurate patient records and in all you do you’ll ensure the highest <br>standards are met in terms of patient safety, confidentiality, clinical compliance and hygiene levels.</p>\n<p><br>What skills and experience do I need?</p>\n<p><br>You need to be a fully qualified Registered Nurse and need a current registration with the NMC.<br>In an ideal world you will already have ophthalmic experience in an admission and discharge <br>capacity. </p>\n<p><br>The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of Biometry/Corneal Topography/ OCT/ FFA/ IOP <br>along with skills conducting diagnostic assessments in Visual Acuity/ IOP checks either <br>Tonopen/Goldman Tonometer Visual Fields/ Pachymetry/ Slit Lamp Skills.</p>\n<p><br>Alongside the mandatory qualifications the following things will be advantageous:<br>• Previous hospital eye service or private eye clinic experience <br>• Knowledge of clinical practice and aware of current developments in Optometry<br>• Capable of working in a fast paced, high-volume clinical setting<br>• The training and coaching of others <br>• The desire for and commitment to continuous professional development <br>• A competent user of computer systems and programmes <br>• An excellent grasp of the English language both verbally and in written format<br>• A good team player – happy to jump in and support others when required</p>\n<p><br>What we’re offering<br>• A salary of from £32,000 (pro rata)<br>• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays <br>• A company pension scheme <br>• Access to a range of benefits including free eye tests, discounted or free glasses, a free 24/7 <br>well-being/counselling/advice service and a retail/technology discount scheme. <br>• An environment where your learning and development is supported through a range of <br>various learning tools and courses. <br>• Working with a friendly multi-disciplinary team passionate about improving the lives of our <br>patients <br>• A bright, spacious and modern working environment, built to the highest standards<br>If you would like an informal chat about the opportunity or to request a job description, please <br>contact <a href=\"mailto:[email protected]\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">[email protected]</a> </p>\n<p><br>Our employment offers are subject to receipt of satisfactory pre-employment checks.
